ABES and ReUrbi campaign contributes to digital and social inclusion projects through the reverse logistics of electronic equipment; USP's Paideia project, which works with low-income youth receives donation in 2021

THE "Mobilization for the Reduction of Inequality“, a campaign launched by ABES – Brazilian Association of Software Companies, in partnership with ReUrbi and Observatório do Third Sector, and with the support of Weber Shandwick, counts on the participation of the Public Ministry of the State of São Paulo. The donation of 19 tons of discarded electronic equipment, in addition to preventing 40 tons of greenhouse gases from impacting the environment, will contribute to the project Paideia – Pro Profession in Information Technology, by LASSU – Sustainability Laboratory of the University of São Paulo (USP). Coordinated by Dr. Tereza Cristina Melo de Brito Carvalho, the program aims to train low-income young people in citizenship, microcomputers and computing, with subsequent placement in the job market and follow-up for a period of 3 years. In addition to helping to facilitate the training course for students with computers for in-person and online classes, the partnership will enable the employability of these students with ABES associates.

"The Paideia Program is in its fourth class and already presents significant results, changing the perspective of life of young people who start to have a new path involving obtaining their first job or deepening their studies, sometimes with courses at the same level. superior or upgrade programs. This ABES initiative further strengthens this program, whose goal is to expand into the national territory”, declares Dr. Tereza Cristina Melo de Brito Carvalho, coordinator of LASSU.

“Mobilization to reduce inequality ensures, free of charge, simply and easily, that companies, regardless of their size, can adhere to the best socio-environmental governance practices, in line with the UN Global Compact. In addition to offering an adequate purpose to disused products, protecting the environment, we contribute to social-digital inclusion and qualification”, emphasizes Rodolfo Fücher, president of ABES.

Companies also contributed to the campaign. Micropower , Cobrasin , Brasoftware and night which together have accumulated around a ton of IT equipment. Part of them have already been reconditioned and donated to entities that train visually impaired people for the job market.

The campaign's target audience is all companies in the country, associated with ABES or not, that have IT equipment to discard and that are interested in participating in this movement with a positive impact on the environment, always complying with ESG (Environment) practices , Social and Governance in English). The companies participating in the action have the benefit of exemption from logistics costs, receive legal documentation for disposals and a Social and Environmental Impact Report (RIA) with information on environmental, economic and social impact for use in their Sustainability and Social Responsibility Reports and will be able to indicate social projects that will receive refunds of resources generated through the program ReciTech - which collects, recycles and reinserts the equipment in the production chain.

“Through the Reverse Logistics process and recycling of disused electronic equipment, ReUrbi has already avoided the emission of more than 2,460,000 kg of greenhouse gases and more than 15,330 kg of toxic metals. This important partnership has enabled us to increase these results, which are so important for the environment and access to technology, by encouraging the growth of the more than 80 social-digital inclusion projects that our company has already worked on”, concludes Ronaldo Stabile, CEO of ReUrbi.
