Rimini Watch™ for Change Management was chosen so that the transfer of the technology ecosystem could be carried out without interruptions to the activity of the smart lighting company
To optimize its operational efficiency and direct investments to innovate its products, GE Lighting, a Savant company, which offers energy-efficient residential lighting and smart home products, has migrated its SAP support to Rimini Street, Inc. (Nasdaq: RMNI), a global end-to-end enterprise software products and services company, a leader in independent support for Oracle and SAP software. The project provided a evolution in technology ecosystem engagement and response at half the cost, enabling SAP systems to be prepared for the future and GE to expand the resources directed towards developing its products.
GE Lighting is increasingly growing in the North American market with its smart lighting products. With the mission of boosting lighting experiences and gaining more customer loyalty, the company analyzed How could you direct your investments towards innovation and rethought its support relationship with SAP, which represented a high cost for the company. “Our company is on a transformation journey from a traditional lighting company to a consumer and smart home technology company. This requires investment across all functions of the company and we asked ourselves: 'Where is there an opportunity for optimization in our current operation that would help reallocate resources for this transformation?' And those discussions initially started with Rimini Street,” explained Theresa Szoke, Vice President of Information Technology at Savant Systems, Inc.
GE Lighting used SAP Change Request Management (ChaRM), a component integrated with Solution Manager for change management, and was afraid of interruptions in the back-end system if they abandoned the manufacturer's support. Rimini Street then introduced Rimini Watch™ for Change Management, a solution that provides management, efficiency, security and quality when executing SAP change and transfer processes, with transparency and audit trails for compliance requirements. The lighting company was able to establish the partnership and Transport of 350 systems was carried out without downtime, without incidents and with the ability to develop or customize application objects used by the North American institution.
Replacing ChaRM with Rimini Watch™ for Change Management yielded unexpected benefits for GE Lighting, including:
- Total transparency and visibility of all changes that occur in the SAP environment;
- Single-pane view to monitor transfer processes with complete reporting down to the object level;
- Central control and secure ABAP and Java transfers;
- Secure transport of changes to target systems, without downtime, and the ability to develop or customize ABAP objects;
- Automated documentation that provides full audit trails for simple tracking, including migrating historical changes made through ChaRM to a full audit trail.
“As a company looking to simplify and streamline our operations, we like the fact that the Rimini Watch solution runs entirely on the ECC6 layer, without the need to manage another environment,” Szoke stated. “Being able to simplify the actual process of moving a change from origination to completion for our team and our context was helpful,” added Sanjay Sethia, Senior Manager of Enterprise Applications at GE Lighting, a Savant company.
