Pioneering and unprecedented, the tool measures habits and recommends actions aimed at the sustainability of companies

Attentive to discussions on the environment and in line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of the Global Compact of the United Nations (UN) and ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) practices, ABES – Brazilian Association of Software Companies seeks to contribute to the improvement of business management by offering, free of charge, the Sustainability Diagnosis . Pioneering and unprecedented, the tool analyzes management performance from the perspective of sustainability and ESG concepts, seeking to understand the state of social responsibility and sustainability of companies in any sector, whether associated with ABES or not.

According to Rodolfo Fücher, president of ABES, companies have long-term goals with regard to their growth, job creation and profitability. However, your mission needs to go beyond that. “Companies have a role to play in society and can act in favor of preserving the environment, reducing inequality, valuing diversity and solving social problems. For this reason, we launched the tool to increase organizations' adherence to a management model that encourages sustainable development, guided by good ESG (environmental, social and governance) practices and policies”, he declares.

The ABES Sustainability Diagnosis was prepared in partnership with Prosperitate Consultoria em Sustentabilidade, and the tool is supported by nationally and internationally recognized benchmarks implemented by institutions such as IBGC, Ethos, Global Compact and GRI and guided by the Sustainable Development Goals to achieve the Agenda2030 of the United Nations. Companies interested in carrying out the diagnosis can do so through from this link. The collected data are treated following the premises of the General Data Protection Law (LGPD), and ABES sends each participant an analysis of their company's performance, as well as an indication of actions for the next steps aimed at improving management with a focus in ESG.

ESG in the focus of ABES

In order to ensure an ethical and sustainable business environment, in addition to being innovative, dynamic and competitive globally, and with the purpose of building a digital and less unequal Brazil, in which information technology plays a fundamental role in the democratization of knowledge, ABES has created a series of initiatives in order to contribute to the development of companies in the technology sector, facilitating the implementation of ESG (Environment, Social and Governance; in Portuguese: Environment, Social and Governance).

ABES continues its commitment to mobilization for the reduction of inequality , reaching 8 out of 17 ODS. The initiative aims to support social inclusion actions that promote training in the digital area, through resources obtained from the recycling of disused technology and telecommunications equipment, reinserting materials into the production chain through reverse engineering. In addition to making entrepreneurs and employees aware of the correct disposal of their equipment and complying with Environmental Legislation and IT safety, which generates a positive impact on the environment and society.

Regarding governance, ABES helps companies to implement their own compliance programs. For this, it developed the initiative An Ethical Company – project that aims to improve the ethical and moral standards of companies interested in adopting an Integrity Program that, in addition to promoting a culture of ethics in corporations, allows for the mitigation of penalties brought by the Anti-Corruption Law (Law 12,846/2013) and meets the requirements of other applicable laws. By offering, free of charge to member companies and partner entities, three services that make up the main pillars of an effective Integrity Program - a Code of Ethics and Conduct model, periodic training directed at company employees and an independent whistleblowing channel - the association encourages the market to follow the path of ethics and integrity.

Committed to its mission to strengthen the Brazilian Software and Services Industry (IBSS) and to promote the development of companies in the sector, ABES offers technology companies the Promotion Guide , a document in which it keeps catalogued, updated and easily accessible to anyone interested, associated or not, all the information about the options for fostering innovation and sources of resources, whether public or private. “Our objective is to offer alternatives to improve tech management for a sustainable future, guided by the ESG principles. Therefore, we share information as much as possible, in order to promote a balance in the Brazilian technological market”, concludes Fücher.
