The theme “challenges and opportunities in times of confinement” was addressed in the webinar "New Times: Panorama and Perspectives", by Francisco Eduardo Espuny, from Matrix Sistemas – Saúde Diagnóstica, promoted by ABES on 03/25. He commented that the communication technology and software sector tends to manage to maintain operations, even in times of seclusion, especially those that were prepared with contingency plans but, like every economic sector, it should feel some impact from the crisis.

“I understand that in this period of challenges and in an attempt to survive the effects of the pandemic on business, there are many things that entrepreneurs can do, among them is identifying the break-even, that is, the balance point between expenses and income to maintain the operation running. Another action is to be aware of all the measures that the government is taking or will take to encourage the operation of companies, such as tax benefits and alternatives to the labor law, in order to use all of this in favor of your business and with great discretion. ”, explained Francis. This list includes financing, special conditions and moratoriums for paying taxes, among others.

Other measures indicated by the executive were: short-term planning and negotiation with customers and suppliers; betting on the associative path, as entities, such as ABES, forward sector claims to the government; keep in touch with current customers, to show that even with the quarantine, the company is active and caring about them; and take care of the well-being of employees.

“I hate the word shutdown. The market is not at a standstill, there are many people, like us, who are working. On the other hand, I understand that this is not the time to spend time on big strategic plans, because nobody knows the future scenario. It is better to concentrate efforts now on maintaining the client, reviewing processes and consolidating the situation”, added Francisco.

Other suggestions presented were: better evaluate the resources that existing software in your company can offer and whether employees are trained to use them. “At this moment of home office, I discovered that most companies spend a lot of money on tools to support their own operation, but it is necessary to increase the degree of involvement with these tools. And don't forget to have a good information security system, as cyber attacks continue to expand”, he concluded.
