Applications are open for the BNDES Garage Program, an initiative to support Brazilian startups, which aims to stimulate entrepreneurship and develop innovative companies from the initial stage to more developed companies, for the generation of new business. Entrepreneurs have until January 27 to register and be part of the first cycle of the program, which will have a partnership with Wayra, Vivo's open innovation hub in Brazil and Telefônica in the world, and Liga Ventures, the first accelerator focused on connecting startups and large corporations in Brazil. Together, Wayra and Liga Ventures have already accelerated and/or invested in almost 1000 startups.
The program will be divided into two strands: a project focused on ideas and product development and another that will address businesses already in the traction phase, respectively called BNDES Garagem Criação e Acceleração. Comprised of in-person workshops, specialized content on the pain of companies, day-to-day monitoring, access to the network of mentors, partners, large corporations and investors, the programs will contribute to the generation of business and the growth of companies. In addition to these benefits, selected startups will be entitled to a full office at WeWork Carioca, at no cost to the company.
Startups from all segments of the economy can apply for both aspects of the BNDES Garagem Program, with special attention to the areas of health and well-being, social and environmental sustainability, creative economy, security, financial solutions (Fintechs), education, IoT (Internet of Things) and Blockchain.
BNDES Garage Creation
The BNDES Garagem Criação program will last four months in Rio de Janeiro, and aims to transform good ideas into companies (CNPJ), with the development of at least one Minimum Viable Product (MVP), and/or help startups that already have product with its market validation, first sales and the possibility of starting an acceleration cycle. BNDES Garagem Criação will have all the necessary content and practice through the main agile methodologies, which include: Problem Definition, Validation, Market, Solution/MVP, Go to Market Business Model, Sales, Investment and Pitch, in a program intensive for the transformation of your idea into a company or for the development of your solution and possible traction.
Entrepreneurs with great ideas are expected for BNDES Garagem Criação, but who have not yet had the opportunity, knowledge and help to get their business off the ground (or are starting to do so now). The feasibility of the project, the team's ability to execute it and how much the program can help the company on this journey will be considered.
BNDES Garage Acceleration
The BNDES Garagem Acceleration program will last for six months, also in Rio de Janeiro, and will take place simultaneously with Creation. The focus of BNDES Garagem Aceleração, however, is to attract operational startups that have a product developed and offered in the market and that have revenues of up to R$ 16 million per year. In order to attract startups with different degrees of maturity, the program will offer personalized, highly dynamic content, focused on generating business with potential customers and accelerated company growth.
For BNDES Garagem Aceleração, startups with a product or functional MVP and first customers will be considered, as well as companies that are already moving towards the traction phase, or in the process of internationalization and that focus on scaling the operation.
Benefits for startups
The startups selected for both BNDES Garagem Criação and Acceleração will receive mentoring and consulting services that include diagnosis and monitoring of the company's current situation, specialized training in business development, sales workshops, scalability, investment, technical product and usability consulting and a lot of connection with the market, large corporations and investors to generate business and growth. In addition, they will have a workspace at WeWork Carioca (RJ), for up to three team members. Other benefits of partner companies include Clouds, marketing automation platforms, means of payment, CRMs, among other tools, which will be offered free of charge or through discounts.
