Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus, in partnership with Taggen Industries & Services, begins a pilot project at its factory, in Resende (RJ), using Internet of Things (IoT) technology for more efficient management of the warehouse. vehicles. The project aims to incorporate technological advances to facilitate the geolocation of trucks and buses between the production line and external yards, which will bring optimizations to current logistics processes and improvements in the production flow.

“Our manufacturing strategy is focused on the digitalization of our factory. We have already made a lot of progress and we have several work fronts to further strengthen this progress. In this sense, this pilot project aims to consolidate studies of initiatives that can generate even more agility in the production of Volkswagen trucks and buses, increasing our productivity”, says Hugo Souza, director of Production and Logistics at VWCO.

The pilot project includes the implementation of an exclusive identification, monitoring and traceability system for trucks and buses in production, in real time, between the production line and yards. With more than 1 million square meters, the VWCO factory requires optimization of the Taggen solution precisely to meet the size of its operation. The reach compared to previous technology will be four times greater, with infrastructure demand reduced to less than 10% of what will be originally needed.

Maximizing efficiency

Devices with national 100% technology – so-called TaggenBeacons – are monitored by antennas (Taggengateways) parameterized with the technology for operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Everything is connected to an independent network and has battery operation autonomy and is highly resistant to bad weather to create the structure of the Real Time Location System (RTLS – Real Time Location System, in English).

This data is monitored by a Taggen cloud platform and made available so that the automaker's professionals can quickly map the position of their vehicles. At any time, from any cell phone.

Werter Padilha, CEO of Taggen, explains that the partnership with Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus was facilitated by researchers from the National Telecommunications Institute (Inatel), who are also partners with the startup in developing the entire system solution. Part of the resources involved in this pilot project come from the agreement with the Brazilian Research and Innovation Company (Embrapii) through its Rota2030 line.

“We are very happy with this partnership with Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus, which is a market leader, a company always attentive to innovations that optimize its processes and investing in advances in Industry 4.0 and IoT. This is a strategic project that will provide agility, maximize efficiency and reduce time for VWCO. Our solution involving cloud systems, smartphones and IoT devices is already in the 'go to market' stage and this first stage with VWCO is a relevant step for us to prove the expected gains and returns”, he highlights.
