VMware's networking and security portfolio delivers more automation, compliance, visibility and scale across the data center, cloud, branch and edge

VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) just announced a broad set of networking and security innovations that further leverage the company's vision for the VMware Virtual Cloud Network, used by 13,000 customers, 88 of the Fortune 100 and eight of the top ten telecommunications companies, and reaches more than 150 thousand branches via VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud. With VMware Virtual Cloud Network, customers can achieve, on average, 59% reduction in capital expenditures and 55% in operating expenses.

The announcement included the release of VMware NSX Advanced Load Balancer; new and improved network and security analysis capabilities provided by VMware vRealize Network Insight 5.0 and NSX Intelligence; plus continued advancements of VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud, the industry's only hyperscale cloud networking solution. Collectively, these solutions enable the company to deliver a public cloud experience – fully automated deployment of data center workloads – on any infrastructure, ranging from edge data centers, private, to public clouds. This agility can only be achieved by automating all network services, which requires software-defined switching, routing, security and load-balancing solutions that are centrally managed and run on distributed servers.

"VMware brings the one-click public cloud experience to every enterprise through an automated, software-defined networking architecture," said Tom Gillis, senior vice president and general manager, Security and Networking Business Unit at VMware. "VMware is the benchmark in security and next-generation software-defined networking, offering consistent, comprehensive connectivity and intrinsic security to applications, data and users wherever they are. We extend this virtual infrastructure across public and private clouds towards edge of networks, and our advanced analytics capabilities provide the visibility and troubleshooting needed to make the Virtual Cloud Network easy to operate."

VMware NSX Advanced Load Balancer: Software-Defined Application Services

The new VMware NSX Advanced Load Balancer is a distributed application delivery controller (ADC) built for the cloud, with an architecture that reflects cloud principles. The solution helps companies overcome the complexity and rigidity of legacy systems and ADC devices with modern software-defined application delivery services. NSX Advanced Load Balancer provides intelligent web application firewall and load balancing software, combined with advanced analytics and monitoring to enable a fast, scalable, and inherently more secure application experience. The solution's central control plane and distributed data plane deliver application services as a dynamic multi-cloud fabric that intelligently automates decisions and provides unprecedented analytics and on-demand elasticity. Customers can dispatch services such as load balancing and web application firewalling to any application on any cloud, running on VMs, containers or bare metal, using a centralized interface.

VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud delivers hyperscale architecture

According to the company, VMware is unique in providing hyperscale SD-WAN through a highly automated and scalable design, similar to the architecture of public clouds such as AWS, Azure and Google Cloud. To do this, the company relies on thousands of gateways across all major cloud providers and hundreds of underlying carrier networks around the world. These gateways are horizontally scalable, which means new gateways are deployed without interruption to the end user. For customers, this means that new branch offices and increased application traffic can be added dynamically and automatically without reconfiguration. Changes, if necessary, can be made dynamically on the gateways without interruption to the end user.

In addition, customers can have tens of thousands of edges on a single network. Cloud gateways provide one-click automated onramp to all major public cloud providers and VMware Cloud Foundation running in private data centers. With VMware's hyperscale SD-WAN solution, enterprises achieve rapid deployment speed, unprecedented cost savings, improved application performance, increased network resiliency and simplified WAN operations.

VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud is a leading player in the growing SD-WAN market, according to industry analysts. The solution has been chosen by thousands of customers in over 150,000 branches in over 130 countries worldwide. The service is available through a network of channels that includes more than 500 global partners, including systems integrators, VARs, MSPs and more than 100 telecom service providers. VMware and Dell EMC also announced a shared SD-WAN service, powered by VMware, that will be sold by approximately 20,000 vendors worldwide.
