The vice-president of the Republic Michel Temer received in an event, on September 25th, at the headquarters of BRQ, in São Paulo, the development plan for the IT market “For a Digital and Competitive Brazil”, prepared by the most important entities linked to the sector: ABES (Brazilian Association of Software Companies), Assespro (Federation of Associations of Brazilian Information Technology Companies), Brasscom (Brazilian Association of Information and Communication Technology Companies) and Sindpd (Union of workers in Data Processing and Information Technology).

According to Michel Temer, the government has been interested in this technological innovation in Brazil for a long time. “We know that this is a sector that is modernized every year, and it is necessary to grow more and more”, he said. Before representatives of the sector, Temer pledged to defend the interests of Information Technology with the executive power and to bring, more and more, investments to the area. “I will defend your cause and the strengthening of the sector and, I hope I don't lose, because, that way, the country wins”, he added. The vice-president also congratulated the entities for this union between associations and union in defense of the same objective. “Here there is no divergence, and it is exactly this combined work that makes this sector grow”, concluded the vice president.

The document presented at the event aims to stimulate the development of the Information and Communication Technology market. The plan is based on stimulating new digital trends; creation and maintenance of a competitive and innovative environment, in addition to the importance of ICT for economic development, citizen services and public efficiency.

In it, the entities defend the incentive of the formation of specialists in diverse areas, both technical, higher and post-graduate level. In addition, they highlight the support for the creation of technology centers, that is, the encouragement of sustainable, economic, sociocultural and technological development of cities interested in investing in the segment. The exemption of Data Centers, with the objective of increasing the production of jobs, is also on the agenda of the project.

All this planning is consolidated due to the enormous growth of Information Technology. In 2013 the sector reached 8.8% of GDP and, according to the plan, in 2022 the impact on the Brazilian gross domestic product will already be 10.7%. Currently, the segment moves R$441 billion per year and is the 5th largest aggregate sector in the world. And, according to the entities, it is possible to grow even more.

The area has shown strong rates of formalization of jobs thanks to payroll exemptions. In 2013, 159,000 people were hired, 18,000 more than in 2012, according to the Ministry of Labor and Employment. According to IDC Brasil, currently, there are more than 1.5 million employees, 70 thousand companies and a market growth that reaches 16.9%.
