IBM and Veritas Technologies announced a strategic partnership to help companies working with an increasing volume of data manage, optimize and protect that data in hybrid cloud environments.

As part of the agreement, Veritas will accredit IBM Cloud Object Storage families of software and cloud services for use with Veritas NetBackup 8.0. This partnership will provide Veritas and IBM customers with a more efficient way to move their data from on-premises systems to the cloud, increasing storage capacity and improving unstructured data management. Building on the 2015 acquisition of Cleversafe, IBM Cloud Object Storage is the most advanced cloud object storage technology at the moment.

In addition, IBM has accredited NetBackup 8.0 to work on the IBM Cloud to provide customers with additional data protection for cloud workloads. NetBackup 8.0 is anticipated to be available in Q2 2017 and will be available to order from the IBM Bluemix Services Catalog. This solution will provide mutual IBM and Veritas customers with customizable, flexible, consumption-based pricing and configurations. Through this model, customers will be able to supply or modify their infrastructures on the IBM Cloud more cost-effectively.

The agreement also provides for joint marketing model and support initiatives for both companies designed to help customers accelerate the adoption of cloud services through a combination of IBM and Veritas expertise.

“Enterprises demand that their technology environments have availability, scalability and resiliency, whether on-premises or in the cloud,” said Mike Palmer, Executive Vice President and Product Superintendent at Veritas. "Extending our partnership with IBM will offer customers all these benefits in IBM's hybrid cloud environments."

“This agreement will give our respective global customers greater control of their data and better management capabilities in the cloud,” said John Morris, general manager of Object Storage in the Cloud at IBM. “Veritas is a great example of a company that uses the IBM Cloud to innovate both its business and that of its customers”, he concluded.
