Veritas Technologies, the leading provider of multi-cloud data management solutions, has released Veritas CloudPoint 2.0 – the second release in the company's line of snapshot data protection technology, which is now certified for the Google Platform.

Veritas CloudPoint 2.0 brings better data protection to the original Google Cloud snapshot capabilities, with greater simplicity, improved search capabilities, and better protection for new workloads and applications in multi-cloud environments.

A year ago, Veritas announced, as part of a global strategic partnership, a series of technology integrations to improve Google Cloud Platform customer data management capabilities. This decision was based on the fact that, in addition to choosing Google Cloud for its core infrastructure, data analytics and machine learning capabilities, an increasing number of enterprise customers are opting for an equally advanced and cloud-sourced solution to ensure the protection and easy recovery of your data within the Google Cloud.

Veritas CloudPoint 2.0 is an enterprise-grade solution built originally for the cloud, with automated identification and protection capabilities for Google Cloud workloads. Through CloudPoint, Veritas offers application-like consistency to Google Cloud Platform Persistent Disk snapshots, indexing individual file restorers, replication for disaster recovery readiness, and industry-leading search capabilities that make it easy to identify and delete personally identifiable information (PII) – thus contributing to compliance with the strictest global regulatory requirements.

“As data protection is a priority for companies using the cloud, over the last year, in partnership with Google, we have helped our shared customers archive, identify and manage data in the cloud,” said Mike Palmer, Vice President Executive and Product Director at Veritas.

“We are currently enhancing this partnership by combining Veritas' data protection know-how and the original snapshot capabilities of the Google Cloud Platform to deliver a simple, flexible, enterprise-grade data protection solution for the workloads stored in the Google Cloud.”

According to one  search In a recent Veritas survey, more than two-thirds of companies use or plan to use two or more cloud providers, with 68 percent using a backup product from the same provider1. Many of these organizations also adopt obsolete in-situ data protection solutions, thus increasing the likelihood of using three or more backup tools. In these multi-cloud environments, companies are also faced with numerous proprietary backup formats, in addition to continuous workload and manually applied backup operations.

CloudPoint 2.0 offers companies the following benefits:

  • Simplified data protection – Customers no longer have to deal with managing multiple individual backup tools for each cloud. The second version of CloudPoint 2.0 contains additional important business data protection functions such as in-depth search and retrieval, protection without the need to install new agents, and support for expanded workloads that are managed and organized through an intuitive, central dashboard.

  • Reduction in compliance risk – As a data protection solution that identifies, classifies and provides no-extra agent protection for PII incidents and deletion on the Google Cloud Platform, CloudPoint 2.0 is ideal for helping corporate customers comply with the strictest regulations, such as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or HIPAA.

  • Improved workload support and disaster recovery –The latest versions include additional cross-region replication capabilities from a single cloud provider that contribute to improved disaster recovery actions. CloudPoint 2.0 also offers expanded support for new workloads and applications such as MongoDB, Microsoft SQL and VMware.
In addition, customers can integrate Veritas NetBackup software with CloudPoint 2.0 to extend NetBackup's snapshot management capabilities in the data center and broker support for public clouds. CloudPoint 2.0 is also part of Veritas' Technology Ecosystem program, which allows partners to certify solutions on CloudPoint and thereby attract new customers who migrate to the cloud.

CloudPoint 2.0 is available worldwide through Veritas and its global channel partners, with one freemium module and two paid modules based on an annual subscription model.
