In the first quarter of 2013, 1.3 million tablets were sold in the Brazilian market, 164% more than in the same period of 2012, when 493 thousand tablets were sold. Considering the total computer market, the participation of tablets was 27.6%, while notebooks had 39.5% and desktops 32.9%.

“Tablets have become the most convenient option for users looking for a cheaper device, which consequently impacts PC sales, especially notebooks. Today, it is possible to find products in the range of the R$ 200, many from unknown brands, but which at first end up catering to users looking for aspects such as mobility and content consumption over the internet”, explains Pedro Hagge, an analyst at IDC. As an example of this change in purchasing behavior, in the first quarter of 2012 1 tablet was sold for every 8 computers, while in the first quarter of 2013 this ratio increased to 1 tablet for every 3 computers.

For the year 2013, the IDC expects that 5.9 million tablets will be sold, a number that will be 81% higher than that presented last year.
