Unesp's Scientific Computing Center (NCC), in partnership with Intel, inaugurated the High Performance Processing Laboratory to carry out software scalability tests and research in the area of parallelism.

“It is increasingly important that researchers and students understand not only the concepts of parallelism, but also acquire practical notions of the scalability potential and related to the use of these new technologies”, says Sérgio Novaes, scientific director of NCC/Unesp.

The implementation of the test platform is being carried out gradually, based on the Intel Academic Program, which is currently contemplating the area of Parallel Programming, which involves access to software resources, course materials, academic forums, remote use of the laboratory ( Multicore Lab) and application development support. Unesp's test laboratory for parallel programming will be the first 'manycore testing lab' deployed outside the US.

“The High-Performance Processing Laboratory is an initiative by Intel and Unesp that will enable remote access by the academic community to the Xeon Phi architecture without the need for local infrastructure. Our expectation is that a large number of professors and students will benefit from this initiative”, comments Nuno Simões, Director of Software at Intel Brazil.

Researchers interested in using the experimental platform will be invited to participate in the Intel Academic Community and encouraged to share the results obtained, if they are interested in disseminating didactic material, success stories or 'white papers' of interesting results.
