Trend Micro announced a strategic partnership with Luxoft, a global digital engineering and strategy company. The two companies will implement the Intrusion Detection System (IDS), a comprehensive cybersecurity solution designed to detect, mitigate and respond to cyberattacks on connected cars.

The automotive industry is rapidly evolving. According to Gartner's estimate, by 2025 more than 1.1 billion connected vehicles, both consumer and commercial, will be on the road. Connected cars and mobility services offer a plethora of new opportunities, but with the introduction of online services and constant connectivity, new cybersecurity threats leave car manufacturers vulnerable to attack. Trend Micro continues to see cybercriminals increasing interest in attacking connected devices – and cars will be no exception.

"We are delighted to join forces with Luxoft to address the growing challenge of securing connected cars," said Akihiko Omikawa, Executive Vice President of IoT Security at Trend Micro. “Connected devices of all types must be protected from the start, and this solution will enable car manufacturers to create the necessary mitigations to block cyber threats. Combining the competence of Luxoft's automotive capabilities with Trend Micro's leading expertise in cybersecurity, we will be able to address the new challenges brought by the connectivity of automotive systems.”

“The automotive industry is undergoing a massive technological transformation in connectivity and connected mobility. As a result, the risk of a cyberattack on a vehicle connected to a cloud platform or mobility services is a major concern,” said Alwin Bakkenes, Executive Vice President Automotive at Luxoft. "Our partnership with Trend Micro will provide a comprehensive security solution for connected cars and mobility use cases, keeping vehicles safe and secure, while enabling reliable and safe mobility in the connected car."
