The healthcare sector remains a sure target for cyber attacks. That is why Trend Micro - a company that specializes in defending digital threats and security in the cloud era - invests in a solid partnership with the HITRUST - Health Information Trust Alliance. Founded in the USA, it is a private entity that works together with other healthcare, technology and information security companies to promote resilience and maturity in the sector.

Trend Micro, as one of the member companies, has come together to take this challenge to a new level: the HITRUST Cyber Threat XChange (CTX) Deceptive. For this step, a cyber platform was developed to attract attackers and detect advanced threats. Thanks to the new offering, Trend Micro will be able to provide more accurate threat prevention for healthcare organizations.

Underground healthcare: easy target for criminals

Highly attractive to hackers, medical data attracts cybercriminals not only because it includes sensitive information, but also because it has long-lived data. According to Trend Micro, the sale of a database in the Deep Web market can cost US$500 thousand.

With the number of applications and services integrated into the healthcare segment increasing, the challenge of keeping IoT platforms and technologies away from attacks is growing proportionately.

To give you an idea, in the first half of 2017 alone, 82 million ransomware threats were identified. The Healthcare sector was responsible for the largest number of loopholes (25%), more than any other segment.

The CTX Deceptive Program inspires HITRUST and Trend Micro to work together and seek increasingly advanced solutions to attract attackers and better understand their practices and targets of interest.

With this insight, it is possible to increase threat visibility and anticipate failure detection. Healthcare organizations can avoid unnecessary spending on security breaches and ensure that patient data is not affected.
