With support from Brasoftware, a Petrobras subsidiary achieved scalability and better management

The recent migration of some applications to the Microsoft cloud made Transpetro save more than half of its expenses with hosting contracts. In addition, the implementation of Microsoft Azure brought gains in scalability, independence and cost reduction for the maritime carrier. “Our contract had, at first, an approximate cost reduction of 50% with Brasoftware. At the turn of 2016 to 2017 during the renovation, we had a reduction of another 10%. In other words, we reduced costs by more than half compared to consumption models prior to the migration to Azure”, said Alex Poloni, Sector Manager of IT Infrastructure at Transpetro.

A logistics and transport company whose main client is Petrobras, Transpetro is responsible for the maritime transport of oil and derivatives extracted by the Brazilian state-owned company. With more than 50 delivery points distributed throughout the country, the company is headquartered in Rio de Janeiro and circulates the fuel produced by the state-owned company with an approximate fleet of 45 ships.

The operational system responsible for ensuring the effective monitoring of ships and the identification of possible dangerous situations is the SAFE (Fleet and Vessel Monitoring System). Coordinating sensors on each ship that throw route data into a central bank, SAFE is now hosted within the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, implemented in partnership with Brasoftware at the end of last year.

Microsoft's largest partner and solutions provider in Brazil, Brasoftware worked together with Transpetro in the migration of the SAFE system to Microsoft Azure. The project includes the migration to Azure and the configuration of Microsoft monitoring tools that give full visibility to the shipping company's Technology team on real-time consumption.

“We did the server migration by changing the database structure to the Azure application with virtual machine and network services. The entire process was done in real time, without the need to shut down the service, something foreseen in the scope of the project and basic premise placed by the client, since SAFE is a mission-critical system”, explained André Oliveira, Services Manager at Brasoftware. .

The migration from SAFE to Microsoft Azure also made it possible for the Transpetro team to act more independently in the administration of its environment.
