Since 2008 in the leadership of the ranking formed by 43 sectors of activity of the Research of Mergers and Acquisitions of KPMG in Brazil, the Information Technology sector was once again the one that registered the largest number of transactions, with 99 deals added in 2013, only five operations less than those registered in 2012, the year in which it also achieved a record of negotiations in the segment.

“Despite the small drop, the sector maintained its pace, leading the number of operations in Brazil. The highlight goes to the domestic transactions that accounted for 55% of all the segment's negotiations”, says Luis Motta, lead partner in the Mergers and Acquisitions area at KPMG in Brazil and responsible for the research.

CB1-type operations, which involve a company with a majority foreign capital acquiring, from Brazilians, the capital of a company established in Brazil, were resumed, mainly in the last quarter of 2013, accounting for 29 operations, 14 registered in the last quarter. “This demonstrates that the foreign appetite has intensified”, explains Motta.
