The Telefônica Vivo Foundation launched the Connected Rural Schools Project, which will connect the internet with 3G technology to 100 rural schools in seven Brazilian states, train teachers and test the impacts of technologies on the quality of education in this context.

“We understand that this project allows us to align our business strategy with our social responsibility, creating a project that allows us to assess the impact of the arrival of technology in these schools”, says Antonio Carlos Valente, president of the Telefônica Group in Brazil.

Each of the schools received as a donation two notebooks configured with an educational operating system with numerous suggestions for links to access publications, debates, research and training for educators and students, that is, educational content in the digital context.

The connection of the 100 schools will benefit more than 11 thousand students and 500 teachers in the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Bahia, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Alagoas and Pernambuco. The choice of sites took into account the rural vocation of the States and also sought a different profile, which would make it possible to assess the impacts in areas with different profiles.

Due to its rural vocation, Rio Grande do Sul is the state with the largest number of schools benefited by the program. There are 33 establishments in 32 municipalities, benefiting a total of approximately 3,500 students and 230 teachers
