Enterprise achieves more than 50% in IT security efficiencies with centralized endpoint cybersecurity management

SuperVia is a Brazilian private company that operates metropolitan rail services from Rio de Janeiro. With a line of 270 km and 102 stations in 12 cities, the company transports an average of 600 thousand passengers per day. Currently with 2,500 employees in three facilities, SuperVia was faced with a challenge: to modernize its IT environment, which includes 700 workstations, a data center with 200 servers, and legacy systems and applications.

Security and digital integrity

In addition to improving its digital infrastructure, the company needed to ensure the integrity of thousands of sensitive data, such as financial information, contracts and even photos and videos from cameras at its train stations. “The security solution used previously did not prevent viruses from entering USB drives and ransomware occurrences; so this time, we needed a really effective security solution,” says Gilberto Sousa, CIO at SuperVia.

After analyzing solutions from several security providers and with the recommendation of the SuperVia controller, Sousa chose Trend Micro, a company specializing in the defense of digital threats and security in the cloud era.

“We were aware of Trend Micro's excellent reputation, and after reviewing the features it offered, such as vulnerability protection, we knew the company could protect our legacy environment. We have been partners with Trend Micro since 2015 and the experience has been very good”, he says.

Solutions used

To address the challenges of digital vulnerability, protect sensitive information and address compliance issues, SuperVia installed the Trend Micro Smart Protection for Endpoints solution. Powered by XGen security technology and high-fidelity machine learning, the solution combines threat protection techniques to eliminate security holes across all user activities and endpoints. “This multi-layered approach protects our legacy environment against ransomware, unknown malware, targeted attacks and other exploits”, explains Sousa.

With proactive security against threats and vulnerabilities to protect SuperVia's legacy systems and applications, the solution protects endpoints, flash drives and removable drives, and file servers.

For centralized management and encryption of endpoint applications, SuperVia adopted Trend Micro Control Manager. “Trend Micro products have many advantages over competitors. We also like the security features incorporated in solutions such as OfficeScan and Vulnerability Protection”, completes Gilberto Sousa.

Results of

The combination of Trend Micro's data center and endpoint solutions ensured an overall improvement to SuperVia's security. According to the CIO, over the past two years, Trend Micro Smart Protection for Endpoints has blocked more than 18,000 attacks and improved the company's compliance by 100%.

In addition, Trend Micro Control Manager allowed monitoring of different layers of the IT infrastructure and management of potential risks. With complete and simplified visibility into security management, SuperVia's IT team was able to improve its efficiency by more than 50%.

The main benefit is the peace of mind of knowing that SuperVia's IT environment is protected from cyber threats. “Even with our very complex environment, I have complete confidence in Trend Micro and believe that the security solution is, today, the best on the market”, he concludes.

perspectives

SuperVia is always looking for ways to protect itself against new and future threats. Therefore, the company plans, in the near future, to update the servers and install the Trend Micro Deep Security solution.
