According to a study by Empresômetro, São Paulo is home to more than 28,600 management software development companies

Technological evolution made many processes be automated within companies in the 1980s. Today, in the face of customization, virtualization and the cloud computing, more and more people join thousands of others in producing software that meets the main needs of the market.

This new Industrial Revolution creates countless possibilities in the field of Technology, given the growth of the market in Brazil. There are more and more businesses specialized in offering software, equipment and services in the area, having moved more than 200 billion reais in 2017 alone.

Management, increasingly nuanced by the size of enterprises and the complexity of their products and processes, needs digital material for coordination, control and advancement. This is what management software is for, which can be found in the most different interfaces and platforms, and its development has seen a significant increase in the country.

Current scenario

According to the Executive Director of entrepreneur, Otávio Amaral, “we currently have over 54,000 active management software development companies”. In São Paulo alone, there are 28,623, equivalent to 52.40% of all companies in the sector in Brazil.

In this new study of entrepreneur, public data were analyzed to arrive at the total number of management software development companies, both large-scale and customizable and made-to-order, excluding those that did not have revenues, do not issue invoices or collect taxes.

There is a concentration of these companies in the Southeast region, making it a reference in management technology, with 38,955 active trades, making up 71,32% from all management software development companies.

Below the number of companies in other regions.

South 8.887 16,27%
North East 3.622 6,63%
Midwest 2.408 4,41%
North 746 1,37%

Maturity of companies in the sector

The call boom of startups seems to be a recent phenomenon, because what the survey of the entrepreneur reveals is that most of the more than 54,000 management software development companies have existed for more than six years, around 63%, and 20,759 units have been on the market for more than 11 years.

Only 6,762 of the total are less than two years old, with emphasis on the state of São Paulo, with more than 3,100 projects that are active today.

The most interesting thing is that in the Northeast region the number of young companies has significant numbers, as in Maranhão where 45% of companies are up to two years old, followed by Rio Grande do Norte, with 35% and Piauí with 29%.
Also, Santa Catarina and Distrito Federal are among the places with a large number of startups, 25% and 29% respectively.

The states that concentrate the lowest rates of startups are Rio de Janeiro, with only 9%, Amapá with 8% and Acre with 4%.

Giants, but not virtual

Everyone expects the technology market to emerge with thousands of supercorporations like Microsoft, Apple or Google, but the reality is quite different.

What the study of entrepreneur shows is that most management software development companies have between 1 and 5 employees, they are small companies, which, due to the specificity of the work, do not demand large structures or so many employees.

“It's the current market trend, growing enough to meet demands, with lean structures and a budget aimed at investing in the product, mainly in the technology sector,” says Amaral.

How to get ahead?

With so many companies, which ones will come out ahead and be able to find their customers? That's a simple answer, but one that many companies still don't know how to do.

Prospecting is a recurrent word in the commercial sectors of many businesses, it is finding the customer and presenting your product. But for that, you need to know the market, know its size, analyze the competition and have access to potential buyers, and that is the grail of sales. Qualified prospecting, the assertiveness so loved by representatives and salespeople, is only achieved with strategic data.

“Technology companies need to know where their audience is, for developers of systems or management software, they need to know where entrepreneurs and their ventures are to be able to offer their product” clarifies the director of the entrepreneur.

These are resources such as time and money that will be saved with the right information, and in this area where there are changes all the time, being a little ahead can be an advantage.
