Much was said about the Internet of Things in 2016, but companies are still taking their first steps in the area. Chatbots, connected homes, among others were terms we heard about in 2016. But what can you expect for 2017? Software AG has listed seven trends that will be trending around IoTs over the next year.

“In Brazil, we have already seen initiatives in the Internet of Things in the logistics, manufacturing and retail industries. What is being decisive in the local market is greater access to sensors for connecting devices, which will accelerate innovative initiatives in our market. The first steps are already being taken so that we can follow the international market in the future”, says Marcus Leite, Business Solutions Architect at Software AG.

Check out the main highlights, according to the company:

CHATBOTS

Chatbots are programs that interact with the consumer during online service. What we may see in the coming months is that engines for these chats will no longer just respond to requests, but will also engage in more personalized conversations dedicated to the user – which will make it difficult to identify whether the person typing is a robot or a person. Banks, retailers and other markets will adopt chatbots to resolve service requests simply and effectively.

READY? GET READY AND GO

More and more companies feel confident enough to venture into customer-facing IoT projects, especially after they have gained enough experience in the area to execute internal projects. Based on the easy recognition available on devices, for example, it will be possible to create personalized ads, according to the preferences of each consumer.

MINORITY REPORT

Consumers will become increasingly comfortable with technologies based on face detection – smarts ignage – and will become willing targets for personalized advertising.

LIVING ON THE EDGE

The transition to Edge Computing consolidates as organizations move their critical analytics applications closer to the devices. In remote areas or in smart factories with many IoT-enabled devices, reliance on analytical processing is so critical that even small connection interruptions can be disastrous. Moving some of the processing to the gateways will be the way to go.

CONTROL YOUR DAY TO DAY

Companies will begin to monitor their customers' smart devices, in which the “ultimate” behavior of the same can influence the value of the services offered. Devices such as connected toothbrushes, for example, that can start healthier habits in people from direct feedback, saving expenses on dental plans. One can also think of smart devices inside the house, which will report if the environment is safe after all the doors are locked at night.

FANTASTIC VOYAGE

As with the 1960s science fiction film Fantastic Voyage (1966), in which a submarine with a small crew is shrunk to microscopic size and injected into the bloodstream of a sick man, we will see more and more experiments in which IoTs will connect to the human body. Medical implants from the Internet of Things can manage pain, or even decode brain signals and relay them to other parts of the body, curing paralysis.

MUCH BEYOND POKEMON GO

Pokémon Go was a real hit in 2016 and next year we will see more similar games on the market. The new offerings will include dynamic locations and smart objects and will be able to change the interaction based on player behavior. The surrounding environment will also be more responsive and interactive, projecting the artificial world onto the real world.
