Software AG announced the acquisition of Cumulocity GmbH, a company based in Dusseldorf, Germany. The company develops innovative solutions for IoT initiatives and provides connectivity to networked digital devices and sensors from a device administration and cloud-based application enablement platform.

The incorporation of Cumulocity solutions into the Software AG portfolio allows companies to integrate their IT applications with operational IoT devices – offering maximum ease of use, flexibility and increased business value. For Software AG, the acquisition of Cumulocity is a step forward in expanding its technology leadership in the area of IoT, as the company also acquired Zementis in December 2016.

With the strategic partnership, the company integrated Cumulocity's cloud-based IoT platform into its Digital Business Platform (DBP) software portfolio two years ago. Combining DBP with Cumulocity's device and application management technology helps to reduce the complexity of IoT initiatives, as well as enabling scalable and flexible network management of millions of devices. Additionally, users can integrate these connected devices with any existing application and deploy other DBP software.

“The Internet of Things and Industry 4.0 are important growth markets for Software AG and the technology industry as a whole. With the acquisition of Cumulocity, we are strengthening our leadership in this industry and making it easier for our customers to access IoT. With the transaction, they benefit from an expanded product portfolio that combines data from physical sensors with innovative software analytics solutions,” comments Karl-Heinz Streibich, CEO of Software AG.

The acquisition of Cumulocity technology completes Software AG's portfolio of IoT services. Among them are streaming analytics, on-premise, cloud and hybrid technologies - now also for IoT devices -, integration, in-memory, dynamic process administration and edge device management. Companies can operate on human and artificial intelligence interfaces. Complementary products for the analysis, evaluation and visualization of real-time, historical and predictive data ensure the best use of AI in decision making. Remote monitoring and control of machines in the production of diagnostics or in predictive maintenance are application areas in industries.

As well as the acquisition of Zementis, Software AG recently announced other strategic alliances with major companies in the IoT and Industry 4.0 markets, including Bosch, Octo, Dell and Huawei.
