In celebration of the 500th MPS assessment and ten years of the MPS.BR program - Improvement of the Brazilian Software Process, celebrated in December last year, Softex carried out its first qualitative survey of MPS customer satisfaction in the first half of this year.

Named “MPS wants to hear from you!”, it was conducted using the SurveyMonkey tool to create the questionnaire, collect responses and analyze the results. The target audience were the sponsors of the MPS-SW (Software) evaluations published from September 2005 to February 2014.

On the reasons that led the company to adopt the MPS model, in a response with multiple choices, 73% pointed to the strategic decision to improve processes, increase business performance to achieve greater competitiveness; 67% indicated sustainable and organized growth as their motive; 64% highlighted the importance of assuring the quality of the software and 59% indicated the improvement in the company's organization and management. The financial reasons, 25%, were of little significance.

In organizations with a current MPS assessment, within the three-year shelf life, 93% of sponsors would recommend the MPS-SW as a model for improving organizational performance. In non-current ones, the sponsors' recommendation reached 77%.

“The information collected will be used by us for the continuous improvement of the MPS-SW model and as a stimulus to accelerate its diffusion not only in Brazil, but also abroad. We also intend to deepen and complete the analysis of the results, based on the answers already collected, in the search for other insights”, explains Nelson Franco, Quality manager at Softex.

193 valuation sponsors answered the Softex questionnaire, 151 (79%) companies with current valuations and 42 (21%) with unrenewed valuations. Of this universe, according to their annual gross revenues, 36% are micro companies, 42% are small, 18% medium, 2% medium-large and 2% large. Regarding MPS maturity level, 84% are at the bottom of the pyramid (GF levels), 15% in the middle (EDC levels) and 1% at the top (BA levels). Considering the regions of Brazil, 50% are located in the Southeast, 30% in the South, 11% in the Northeast, 7% in the Midwest and 2% in the North.

A decade after its launch by Softex, the MPS.BR program reached the milestone of 569 MPS-SW assessments in private and government companies in Brazil and abroad (Colombia). Of this total, more than 70% are micro, small and medium-sized organizations (mPME). The front line of the program includes 19 implementing institutions, 13 evaluating institutions, 8 organizing institutions of groups of active companies and 2 acquisition consulting institutions. In 2014, Softex's goal is to surpass 600 MPS evaluations in all regions of the country and abroad, both MPS-SW (Software) and MPS-SV (Services).
