Brazilian edition of the world's largest smart cities event will bring together big names in the area around the planet on March 26th and 27th

Third Brazilian edition of the largest event on smart cities in the world, the Smart City Expo Curitiba 2020 (SCECWB 2020) has just confirmed ten more experts who come to Curitiba on March 26th and 27th to present and discuss innovations that improve people's lives . Among the confirmed world-renowned speakers are Tom Benson, a British architect who works in the Department of Studies and Urban Planning at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology); researcher Beatriz Barreto Lanza, member of the Smart City Smart Government Research Practice, at SUNY (State University of New York) in Albany; and Brenda Escobar, director of the Center for Connectivity and Technological Infrastructure at the CDMX Digital Public Innovation Agency, in Mexico City.

They will also be present at the event Gustavo Palacios, co-founder of Sharecollab, in Colombia; Belén Fuentes, director of Urban Planning at the Metropolitan Institute of Urban Planning (IMPU) in Quito (Ecuador); Sebastián M. Cabello, director of SmC + Consulting, consultant for the Latin American Internet Association (ALAI) and researcher at CeTyS; Jorge Saraiva, president of the European Network of City Policy Labs; and Ana Ruth Villarreal, specialist at the National Public Innovation Laboratory of the Costa Rican government.

The team of recently confirmed speakers completes: Juanita Rodríguez, vice chancellor of innovation at the Universidad EAN de Bogotá (Colombia); and Juan Felipe Lopez, executive director of the company UNIT, in Chile.

Gil Peñalosa

Listed by Planetizen in 2017 as one of the 100 most influential urban planners of all time, Gil Peñalosa is also confirmed as one of the main speakers at the event. Founder and president of the Canadian non-profit organization 8 80 Cities, he has accompanied managers from more than 350 cities around the world to transform urban communities into more accessible, healthy spaces that offer well-being for all people, regardless age, gender, socioeconomic or ethnic status.

Also confirmed are Marcelo Facchina, Chief Executive in Smart Cities and Digital Municipalities at the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF); Piero Pelizzaro, specialist in climate change policies and urban resilience planning - a term related to the ability of cities to adapt and transform in a sustainable way in the face of natural or man-made threats - and director of resilience for the City of Milan; Darío Hidalgo, senior consultant at the WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities; Carlos Gadsden, president of the International Foundation for the Development of Trusted Governments (FIDEGOC), and Cecilia Vázquez, president and founder of the Moviles de Cultura Brigades, an organization for community development in Puebla, Mexico.

Smart City Expo 2020

Smart City Expo Curitiba 2020 is certified by FIRA Barcelona, a Spanish public consortium formed by the City of Barcelona, the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce. In November, FIRA promotes, in November, the Smart City Expo World Congress, the largest event on smart cities in the world. In Brazil, the event is organized by iCities, a Curitiba company specialized in intelligent solutions, and has the support of the Curitiba City Hall.

The theme of this year's event, which will be hosted at the Centro de Eventos Positivo (former Expo Barigui), in Curitiba, is “Smart Cities in Action”. “We want to transform the citizen into a protagonist to materialize the actions of smart cities”, says Beto Marcelino, managing partner of iCities.
