The Covid-19 pandemic has imposed a series of challenges on companies due to the restrictions and care in the units to prevent the contagion of their employees by the new coronavirus. Leader in intelligent solutions aimed at the industry, Siemens innovates once again by introducing virtual reality glasses in activities in the Smart Infrastructure and Digital Industries areas that have facilitated communication with customers and partners in times of pandemic.

In Smart Infrastructure activities, the device attached to a helmet transmits images in real time through a platform connected to any 4G internet network, whose activities within Siemens factories can be viewed by customers and partners on their computers or tablets, without the need to leave their offices.

Siemens innovation has facilitated electricity management services for factories in various sectors such as Chemicals, Infrastructure, Telemarketing, Utilities and Pulp & Paper. Thus, activities such as commands, checking control panels and current circuits, which were previously carried out with the presence of customers at Siemens units, are now carried out remotely using the new device.

“With this adaptation, instead of coming to the Siemens unit, the customer can see the entire operation of an electrical energy distribution panel in his plant without leaving his office”, explains the manager of the Distribution Systems Services area. , Anderson Pin Tavares. “In addition to facilitating communication, this equipment streamlines activities and reduces the expenses that the customer would have to travel to one of our units”, completes Tavares.

In this same context, the Digital Grids telecommunication engineering area also developed a solution for remote factory testing. In order to test the telecommunication system panels for customers, the area created a tool that works through two physical cameras that film the tests full time, a cell phone as a mobile camera for panel details and, for finally, the sharing of the configuration screen of the Siemens specialist who is operating the tests remotely.

"While the specialist performs the tests on the panel, the customer can follow everything in real time and also include other people from the project to comment on the topic, at the same conference, having had the full time contact with the technician who is operating the machine", explained the coordinator of the Telecom area at Siemens, Paulo Eduardo Galvão.

In the Digital Industries area, the equipment is offered to partners to transmit images in real time to perform Assisted Maintenance services, where Siemens specialists are able to check, guide and diagnose solutions even from a distance. For this service, the proprietary Circuit Expert platform is used, and the innovation has helped in services in the industrial area such as automation, drives, commands and motors.

In addition to the glasses, the transmission of images can also be carried out through devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops, and the service only requires connection to an internet network (3G, 4G or Wi-Fi). However, the use of glasses is distinguished by offering better image quality, avoiding noise in communication, and enabling voice commands.

“Siemens already had plans to innovate with this equipment in our field service activities, but we accelerated implementation due to the pandemic. It is a collaborative tool that facilitates communication between the company and customers, and we have had very positive feedback because it is a solution that perfectly fits the moment we are going through and that will be a trend going forward with a lot of added value to customers." says Everton Lopes, Head of the Industry Services Business Unit.

Despite the possibility of communication being carried out through mobile devices, the use of glasses is distinguished by offering better image quality, avoiding noise in communication, and enabling voice commands. With these characteristics, the equipment reduces response time for activities, speeds up communication with customers and brings Siemens specialists together to assist in services in case of failures and inspections.
