An unprecedented global initiative in the company's history was created in remote format a year and a half ago and gained an office in the capital of Minas Gerais in April 2022
About 75% of Brazil's iron ore production is controlled by systems implemented by Siemens' Minerals Digital Hub
A company focused on digitalization, Siemens is operating an innovation hub in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, with the purpose of delivering solutions to customers in the mining sector, which are located in that region of the country. The physical space opened in mid-April, continuing the remote work that the team has been performing for a year and a half.
The Minerals Digital Hub is an initiative that started from the company's global headquarter in Germany and the capital of Minas Gerais was chosen because it is home to large companies in the sector such as Vale, Anglo American, Samarco, CSN, among others. The focus of the deliveries is industry 4.0, with an emphasis on digitalization of production chain process management, operational technology and R&D development projects (research and development) with the aim of deepening knowledge in the area.

With the solutions that Siemens is implementing for customers, it is possible to observe the entire production process of mineral extraction, which ranges from dismantling the mining front, processing the material at the plants, to shipping it on the railroad. “The software allows real-time monitoring of all operations, facilitating agile decision-making to correct deviations in the value chain and minimizing financial and environmental impacts for the customer”, says João Camilo Lelis Costa, Head of Operations at Minerals Digital Hub.
About 75% of the production of iron ore produced in Brazil and 100% of the production of one of the largest mining companies in the country passes through the systems implemented by Siemens. The solution is part of a unique technological platform for managing the mining business's value chain, and encompasses the entire production process, from the mine and beneficiation to product dispatch. Other solutions are underway to serve Siemens customers in Serbia, South Africa and Peru.
From the conception of solutions for customers, the Minerals Digital Hub team takes care of the implementation of the new technological culture that the customer must absorb, following the evolution of changes and providing the necessary support, such as consulting, training, mapping of users, processes and engagement activities. The team is located in different locations in Brazil, allowing for greater team diversity and enhancing innovation.
