Survey by the Santa Catarina Association of Technology Companies points out that internationalization could strengthen the sector

The year ended with good results for the technology sector in Santa Catarina. According to the Santa Catarina Association of Technology Companies (ACATE), the revenue of companies in this area grew by an average of 15% compared to 2013. Despite the increase being lower than that recorded in previous years – 20% on average – the result was considered positive due to the weak economic development of the country this year. The industry of Santa Catarina, for example, had a decrease of 0.8% in sales, according to the balance sheet for the period from January to October released by the Federation of Industries of the State of Santa Catarina (Fiesc).

The IT sector in Santa Catarina has approximately 1,800 companies that employ more than 20,000 people. One factor that favored the above-average performance of some organizations in Santa Catarina was ACATE's Business Verticals model. The initiative enables strategic contact between companies operating in the same segment — Agribusiness, Cloud Computing, Education, Energy, Games, Government, Manufacturing, Health, Safety, Sustainability, Telecom and Textiles. Altogether there are 123 participating companies.

According to the president of the Association, Guilherme Bernard, despite the good projection, some measures are necessary to further strengthen the sector. “A challenge for technology businesses is to plan the search for international business, so as to become less dependent on the Brazilian market”, he says.

For the next year, ACATE's goal is to leverage the growth of its members with the inauguration of a new headquarters, which will have high-end infrastructure, 22 meeting rooms and all the space designed to promote more collaborative business. The development is located on SC-401, in Florianópolis, in the region known as Innovation Route.
