New guidelines need to adapt to the reality of small organizations

In order to review current standards and prepare new rules on ISO – International Standard Organization certifications, the subcommittee JTC 1/SC 40 – IT Management and IT Governance was present during the month of May, at Fundação Vanzolini, supporter of the meeting that debates significant changes on the topic.

The group participating in the meeting is responsible for the elaboration of International Standards within the IT area, which concerns ISO 20000, widely used by large companies and which defines the quality of the sector's services process, and IT Governance, from the series ISO 35500 – which should gain new sections, such as auditing and governance for multiple providers.

According to John Sheridan, Head of the Australian Government of Technology and Procurement Coordinator, changes can take time to implement. "Changes don't happen quickly, and companies have the opportunity to follow the work as a result of their involvement with the rules or to understand what has been adapted and make the appropriate changes in the area of operation. It is done gradually", he says. .

The Brazilian mirror committee managed by ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards), professionals from the Vanzolini Foundation and Professor Marcelo Pessôa also participated in the first edition of the meeting held in the country. "For Brazil, it is extremely important to participate in the elaboration of new norms, as we were able to present our point of view, what we need to achieve greater visibility. The more norms are disseminated throughout the country, the more advanced it will be", explains Pessôa. , which also assesses the relevance of the institution's participation in the meeting. "As we are representatives of ABNT in Brazil, it is very important that we follow these novelties in the standards. We have many activities at Fundação Vanzolini that are related to them, such as certification and application", he says.

Developing countries took some time to get into the discussion, which is now coming to the fore and has Brazil as one of the leaders of the small business debate within this committee. According to Fernando Gebara, head of the Brazilian delegation participating in the meeting, the guidelines do not match the reality of small organizations and it is necessary, during the review process, to make them more friendly. "Our objective is to put within this International Committee what are the needs of Brazilian companies and the Brazilian government in relation to these standards, because we want this standard to be useful for Brazil. So, our role here is to defend our reality , from a small company, from a developing country", he concludes.
