New offerings enable the creation of React apps and templates developed in Python, R or SAS

SAS, a leader in AI and analytics, announces the expansion of the capabilities of its leading data, AI and analytics platform, SAS® Viya®. The new products – unveiled this week at the SAS Explore technology event – create lightweight environments for quickly creating AI models and applications, support multiple programming languages, and provide immediate access to scalable cloud computing.

“The current environment, in all its intensity, requires businesses to focus on results, and AI is essential for increasing human productivity,” says Bryan Harris, executive vice president and chief technology officer at SAS. “The SAS Viya ecosystem is constantly being enhanced with products that meet the emerging needs of data scientists and developers – to increase productivity and accelerate innovation.”

Delivering on-demand analytics to everyone, anywhere

New products in the Viya ecosystem include:

  • SAS Viya Workbench – A lightweight, fast development environment that runs code efficiently and securely, cloud-native. SAS Viya Workbench features a multi-language architecture, enabling the rapid creation of high-performance, production-ready models in the user's preferred language – Python, R or SAS.

As an alternative to trying SAS Viya, SAS Viya Workbench also offers flexibility in the development environment with plans to include three clients – Jupyter Notebook, Visual Studio Code, and SAS® Enterprise Guide®. SAS Viya Workbench is currently available in a private preview, scheduled for release in early 2024.

  • SAS App Factory – A rapid development environment for creating purpose-built, AI-driven applications. The offering automates the configuration and integration of a set of cloud-native technologies built in React, TypeScript, and Postgres, so developers can focus on bringing AI-driven models and applications into production. SAS App Factory is expected to be generally available in 2024.

Offering AI and analytics as a service

As utilities increase the integration of renewable sources such as wind and solar, they must balance supply with a diversified energy portfolio. YOUAS Energy Forecasting Cloud – the first SAS product that uses SAS App Factory – allows managers and planners of these services to gather large amounts of data and generate models based on AI and analytics to predict peaks in energy demand and obtain more accurate forecasts. SAS Energy Forecasting Cloud generates predictive insights into supply and demand to help utilities maintain stability while improving costs.

Cambridge University Hospitals has used SAS App Factory to develop solutions that improve outcomes for doctors, patients and their families.

Cambridge data scientists, in partnership with healthcare professionals, are developing an app to increase the likelihood of successful kidney transplants. The app focuses on the critical period when histopathologists analyze kidney biopsies to determine transplant viability. Using computer vision and AI, the application classifies each biopsy and prioritizes proposed kidneys so that histopathologists can quickly identify those most viable for transplant.

A flexible, collaborative AI ecosystem for everyone

The evolution of Viya, which includes new SaaS products, is based on ensuring that SAS algorithms – trusted by thousands of users for accuracy, performance and scalability – can run wherever and whenever they reside the data.

The pillar of the ecosystem's connectivity is the AI, analytics and data management platform, SAS Viya, which delivers low/no/yes code options and leverages all levels of professional competence involved in the analytical process. Developers, data scientists, IT professionals, and business analysts can collaborate in perfect harmony across the SAS Viya ecosystem and across the entire AI and analytics lifecycle to make intelligent decisions.
