The Minister of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications, Gilberto Kassab, and the mayor of São Paulo, João Doria, announced the creation of the International Center for Technology and Innovation (Citi) in a seminar on February 27 on the construction of the technological hub in an area of 600 thousand square meters where the Companhia de Entrepostos e Armazéns Gerais de São Paulo (Ceagesp) is currently located, in Vila Leopoldina.

“We are going to create one of the main centers of technological development in the world. The biggest, the most efficient, the most modern. The federal government is fully convinced of the importance of this project. It is a magical area, next to USP [University of São Paulo], with room to grow in a true technology corridor. This is one of the main vocations of the city of São Paulo. From an urban point of view, it will contribute to meeting a series of interests of the city for its sustainable development”, said the minister.

With the participation of technology companies and startups, Citi will be financed under a public-private partnership (PPP) regime. The space will receive initiatives in the areas of education, science and innovation. “By 2020, we will have all the decisions formatted and the works started. São Paulo will finally have its technological axis”, said Mayor João Doria.

Kassab highlighted the importance of the participation of the three spheres of public power, in addition to resources from the private sector, for the success of the project. “The investment of the ministry, of the federal government, is to believe in the project, in the leadership of the administration of Mayor João Doria. It will be one of the main brands in the city of São Paulo”, said the minister.
