Inspired by the creative and innovation laboratory model, Samsung opens this week the Collaborative Research Laboratory, its new R&D space at Unicamp's Science and Technology Park.

In an area of about 100 square meters, Samsung continues the partnership that began in 2012 with the university. So far, nine research projects have been signed between the company and Unicamp, four of which are still in progress.

“Samsung chose to work with Unicamp due to the high scientific competence and academic relevance that the university has in the national and international scenario”, says Samsung's R&D manager, Miguel Lizarraga. “The synergy of this association has generated excellent educational results, as well as practical ones, with applied technological development”, he adds.

The Collaborative Research Laboratory is intended mainly for students and professors from IC (Computer Institute) and FEEC (Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing), who are part of the projects alongside Samsung researchers.

The objective of the partnership is to promote scientific and technical results that can be applied in the short and medium term between Samsung's different computing platforms. The focus of research is on technologies that can be embedded in Samsung mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, to increase security and allow applications to run faster and with less battery consumption.

“We are dealing with high technology. Such a lasting partnership with a company like Samsung is to be celebrated. This is yet another demonstration of Unicamp's impact on the generation of products with high added value. It is innovation generating not only technical-scientific knowledge, but also economic development”, comments the executive director of Inova Unicamp, Milton Mori.

In these three years of the Samsung-Unicamp partnership, the results of the research resulted in three patent deposits at the INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property), one deposit in the United States and about 20 publications in congresses and scientific journals, both national and international. This program is financed by Samsung Eletrônica da Amazônia Ltda., under the Computer Law number 8.248/91.
