Samsung and the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (Poli-USP) inaugurate a training and technological qualification center aimed at creating projects to foster entrepreneurship and encourage the development of mobile solutions.

Conceived by means of an agreement with the Poli Partners program, the new laboratory, called Ocean USP, has state-of-the-art equipment and is installed in an area of 300m² of Poli's Production Engineering Department.

At Ocean USP, teaching and research activities will be developed, as well as extension activities, with diffusion courses, with emphasis on one dedicated to the Internet of Things (Internet of Things - IoT). In the new course, students will be able to learn from the development of the hardware of a device - such as a smartphone, for example - to the expansion and multiple connection, which make the devices essential for people's lives.

The technological training grid will be very broad, in the form of free and intensive courses, in addition to other training related to business practices, such as strategic planning, project management, marketing, entrepreneurship, among others, in partnership with the Engineering Department. of Production at Poli-USP.

"At Samsung, we believe that it is very important to be close to the growing ecosystem of entrepreneurs and developers. The Ocean in two years of operation - with units in Manaus and São Paulo (previously, located on Avenida Faria Lima) - has already trained around 25 thousand people, "says Gabriel Farias, Director of Innovation at Samsung Latin America.

For the academy, Ocean USP will be of great importance, as it will allow the University to deepen its research on technologies related to industry 4.0. Considered the new industrial revolution, industry 4.0 integrates manufacturing with the state of the art of information and communication technology, connecting people, machines and processes in an intelligent way.

"The new laboratory will make it possible to add innovative technologies with Production Engineering methods, boosting research and practical actions in advanced manufacturing", says Eduardo Zancul, professor in the Production Engineering Department at Poli-USP, and one of the coordinators of the Ocean USP laboratory .

Ocean USP should be a platform to add skills, people and projects in partnership with other entities, always open to the community. “The purpose is to boost the development of projects, in addition to the teaching and research activities already underway at USP. The Internet of Things has a promising future in Brazil, mainly within university environments ", concludes Eduardo Conejo, Innovation Manager at Samsung Latin America.
