Research commissioned by Trend Micro also reveals that more than 40% of companies believe that the situation is out of control

THE Trend Micro, a global expert in cybersecurity solutions, announces the findings of Sapio Research's new global study on global organizations' concerns about cyberattacks and risk management challenges. The survey shows that Three-quarters (73%) of enterprises are concerned about attack surface growthMore than a third (37%) of respondents say it is “confusing and constantly evolving,” and more than two-fifths (43%) believe it is “out of control.”

Visibility is once again the main obstacle when assessing risk exposure. Nearly two-thirds (62%) said blind spots undermine security, with greater difficulties in cloud environments. In global organizations, the perception is that challenges are multiplied. Among those interviewed, 65% stated that being an international company, with multiple jurisdictions, makes it difficult to manage the attack surface. However, a quarter (24%) are still mapping their systems manually and 29% regionally, which can create more silos and visibility gaps.

“The modernization of the IT sector over the past two years has been a necessary response to the pandemic, but in many cases it has unintentionally expanded the digital attack surface, offering cybercriminals more opportunities to compromise assets,” said Bharat Mistry, technical director at Trend Micro. “To reduce visibility gaps and have effective protection, it is essential that organizations and companies have a robust security solution, with a multi-layered platform, to track suspicious behavior since the attempted invasion”, says César Cândido, general director of Trend Micro Brazil.

The study also revealed that more than half (54%) of companies believe that their method of assessing risk exposure is not sophisticated enough. This is reflected in other aspects analyzed:

  • Only 45% has a well-defined way of assessing risk exposure;
  • More than a third (35%) review/update their exhibition only once a month or even less frequently;
  • Only 23% reviews risk exposure daily;
  • Stay up to date on the attack surface, constantly changing, is the main challenge for organizations.
