Each year, the number of self-employed IT resellers without a physical store increases. This is what the 6th Sectorial Survey of IT Distributors and the 5th Census of Resellers by the Brazilian Association of Information Technology Distributors (Abradisti) point out, commissioned from IT Data, a technology market analysis consultancy.

The survey carried out with more than 1,800 resellers in all regions of the country during the year 2015 shows that companies with only one professional, that is, the owner, represent 28.7% of respondents, against 25% in 2014. “This is a strong indication that the IT product reseller has become a consultant who does not have a store, just a commercial office or works from home office”, says Mariano Gordinho, executive director of Abradisti.

The participation of individual entrepreneurs added to companies that have 2 to 3 employees represents more than half of the sample, with 51.4%. Resellers with more than 20 employees are equivalent to a share of just 9.5% of a market estimated at more than 30,000 merchants.

Another trend that has been consolidating is the absence of a physical store. Factors such as the economic crisis and high rent values increased the number of resellers without a commercial establishment from 52% in 2014 to 57.6% in the last year. Of these, 36.5% work in an office and 21.1% claim to adopt the home-office model.

“The operation of these companies is more in the provision of services and less focused on selling products, which usually happens on order or over the internet”, explains Gordinho. It is worth noting that revenue from services already represents 40.5% in the national average. Hardware sales fell from 31.4% to 26.9%.
