(ISC)², the world's leading institute focused on education and professional certifications in Information Security and Cybersecurity, released the global and Latin American results of the Global Information Security Workforce Study - GISWS (Global Study of the Workforce in the Security Area). of Information) during the Security Congress Latin America 2017, held on June 29, in Saulo.

The study carried out with 959 Information Security professionals in Latin America points out that although 51% of the organizations state that they plan to increase the number of professionals in the area in their staff, by 2020 there will be a lack of 185 thousand professionals trained to carry out the activities inherent to Information Security.

Another worrying fact is that companies in Latin America have reduced investments in training for their employees. 44% of respondents say they bear their own training and development costs. “Having qualified and trained professionals is mainly a benefit for the company, which now has better and more reliable results”, explains Gina van Dijk, Regional Director of (ISC)² Latin America.

The report also shows that in the region only 18% of the professionals working in the sector come from areas not related to Information Technology. “It is necessary to understand that Information Security is not just a responsibility of the IT area, but a strategic factor for the organization's business. The training of professionals is more than an investment in a career plan, it is mainly a key factor for the future and security of a company's most valuable asset: its information”, adds Gina.
