The objective is to contribute to the success of the Pernambuco Mais Íntegro Program (PPMI), recently instituted throughout the state

Recently, the state of Pernambuco started the first phase of its Anti-Corruption Program and instituted the Pernambuco Mais Íntegro Program (PPMI), which seeks to establish guidelines for the promotion of ethics and probity in public management. Aware of this important movement that contributes to its purpose of building a more digital and less unequal Brazil, the ABES – Brazilian Association of Software Companies sent three of its leaders to Recife – Clara Savelli (responsible for the relationship with members), Paulo Milliet Roque (President of ABES) and Rodolfo Fücher (President of the Board) – for strategic meetings to present the program “An Ethical Company”, in order to contribute to the second phase of the PMMI, this time aimed at the private sector.

According to Flávia Brito, Vice-President of ABES in Pernambuco, the idea is to disseminate the “Uma Empresa Ética” program among local companies, aimed at ABES associates and which grants a certificate in recognition of efforts in implementing integrity programs . “To grant the certificate and the seal, the company must register with the entity and the program, in addition to demonstrating the effective application of the three essential pillars of an integrity and legal compliance policy, which are the Code of Ethics, Compliance Training and adoption of an independent reporting channel. Sharing this expertise with all businessmen who are interested in developing an effective culture of integrity will help the government of Pernambuco in the fight against corruption”, he explains.

For Paulo Milliet Roque, President of ABES, taking the “Uma Empresa Ética” program to Pernambuco will help build a business environment conducive to innovation, ethical, dynamic and competitive. “We are going to Recife to encourage companies to join initiatives that comply with Brazilian anti-corruption legislation and international best practices,” he declares.

ABES integrity actions expanded in 2018

ABES strengthened its integrity program in 2018, expanding the actions guided by its Statute, in force since the foundation of the association in 1986. Then, based on a survey carried out with its associates to assess the degree of maturity in relation to the programs of integrity and compliance, ABES launched the “An Ethical Company” Program, which encourages the formal adoption of the highest ethical standards in dealing with internal or external matters; the improvement of the standard of behavior in dealing with customers, suppliers, competitors, employees and government agents; and the creation of formal norms for the execution of such actions.

The program works with three pillars – Compliance Policy, Compliance Training and Reporting Channel –, offered free of charge to associates, who also have the support of the Compliance Officer and the Legal Department of ABES available to solve doubts, when they develop their own initiatives and to implant the three pillars.

In 2020, the Association began granting the Uma Empresa Ética certificate, which is awarded to companies that officially joined the program and promoted all three pillars. The certificate is valid for 12 months, starting from the date of issue of the document, when the associate will need to renew it and prove that the pillars are being respected and are part of the company's day-to-day.
