Action seized equipment with illegal copies of computer programs, with support from ABES - an entity in the sector

Last Thursday, December 9, agents from the Police Precinct of the municipality of Gaspar carried out an operation to search and seize illegal software in the city of Ilhota (SC). The team approached a computer retailer and seized: two notebooks, a netbook, pendrives, memory cards and external hard drives containing illegal copies of computer programs.

“The focus of this type of action is on resellers that make illegal copies of e-commerce. The police authorities have focused on containing the proliferation power of this seized equipment, which can easily multiply the supply of pirated software, and not just on the volume of suspicious material ”, comments Jorge Sukarie, president of the Brazilian Association of Software Companies (ABES) ), an entity that offers logistical support to police authorities in these search and seizure operations in various regions of Brazil.

47% of PCs already leave computer stores pre-infected

An IDC study, released in 2014, points out that around 47% of computers acquired in computer resellers in Brazil are already "pre-infected", with "malware", including "Trojans" and other powerful viruses. “The consumer must be attentive and request proof of the software licenses installed on his computer. This is because, in many cases, these stores sell equipment with pirated computer programs already installed, without the consumer suspecting that they are being harmed ”, highlights Sukarie.

With the migration of a large part of piracy to the virtual environment, the entity has also invested heavily in its service of Internet Monitoring. In 2015, until the month of November, the entity managed to remove around 65 thousand advertisements, links and websites with content that gave access to files that violate the Software Copyright of the entity's associates.
