The Internet of Things world congress, the IOT Solutions World Congress, which will be held in Spain from September 16 to 18, has among its ambassadors 30 supporters in promoting the event around the world, with one of the institutions based in Latin America: the Santa Catarina Innovation Network (RECEPETI). The distance is continental, but the partnership offers discounts on congress registration for members of 120 innovation entities associated with the network in Santa Catarina.

According to the president of RECEPETI, Rui Luiz Gonçalves, the greatest advantage of international cooperation is access to the knowledge disseminated by 80 of the most influential companies in the world on how the Internet of Things will transform the global economy in the coming years. Amazon, Bosch, Deloitte, GE, HP, Indra, Intel, IBM, AT&T and Cisco are some of the companies that will present their research and projections during the congress at the Gran Via Venue Center in Barcelona.

“Participating in events of this magnitude makes us aware of the innovation developed in any part of the world and significantly reduces the delay that often accompanies Brazil's view of the international scenario. We need to be open to knowledge and disseminate information in our networks and innovation habitats”, emphasizes Gonçalves, who also presided over the Santa Catarina Association of Technology Companies (ACATE), from 2008 to 2012.

RECEPETI operates projects in the Santa Catarina innovation program

In 2015, the Santa Catarina Innovation Network (RECEPETI) signed two international agreements for the transfer of technology to Santa Catarina, with world reference centers in innovation: the Catalan Network of Science and Technology Parks (XPCAT), in Spain, and the SRI International, in the United States. The partnerships started with workshops, in Florianópolis, in January and March, involving leaders from Santa Catarina who are part of the implementation committee of the Santa Catarina Innovation Program (PCI).

The program is an initiative of the SDS – State Secretariat for Sustainable Economic Development and the State Government, with the participation of public, community and private universities, business entities, technology parks, incubators and other government bodies.

In 2014, RECEPETI was the entity qualified in a public call to act in the structuring and expansion of innovation infrastructure in Santa Catarina. The network works together with the government and entities in the implementation of regional centers and, among other tasks, in the formatting of a governance model for the Innovation Centers being implemented in the State.

Next, the president of the network, Rui Luiz Gonçalves, talks about the partnership with the organization of the IOT Solutions World Congress.

1) What knowledge and benefits can Brazilian software developers acquire by participating in the IOT Solutions World Congress?

Participating in the meeting that brings together what is most modern in the world in technology applied to the internet of things is a differential for companies that want to act or occupy a space in this market, which is immense and is just beginning. In the near future, everything will be connected, and the universe of opportunities is currently undersized. The IOT Solutions World Congress will focus the experiences of the most advanced companies in the world on the subject and is held in Barcelona, Spain, a region with which we have a lot to learn about innovation, for its networks of fully functioning technology parks and some models that are references to the world. The Industrial IoT organization, which lends its thematic foundation to this congress, was founded by companies such as AT&T, Cisco, GE, IBM and Intel to bring together organizations and technology to accelerate the growth, adoption and use of the industrial Internet of Things. It is an indisputable reference for the view on the subject.

2) How is Recepti working to promote Brazilian participation in the event?

We are partners for dissemination and promotion. Our partnership with XPCAT, the Catalan network of science and technology parks, is quite comprehensive. We cooperate to implement the management model of the 13 Innovation centers that the Government of SC is building in the pole cities of the State. There is also academic cooperation, in which students and professors from our universities are on exchange programs. In addition, we have a partnership with XPCAT to search for commercial and business partners for our companies in Santa Catarina.

3) How can IoT apply to industry?

The advent of cloud computing and the inclusion of processors in almost all electronic devices, including electronic controllers in household equipment (machines, automobiles, electronics) and automation systems in general, are a boost to the evolution of the internet of things. The limit for applications is infinite. We will be able to connect everything to the internet and remotely control the operation: cars, lighting, cameras, appliances, as far as imagination allows.
