Oracle Retail Enabled Makro to Restructure as a Retailer and Improve Customer Experience in 96%

Makro, one of Brazil's leading wholesale chains, underwent a digital and commercial transformation with Oracle Retail to address major changes in the cash and carry wholesale market. Part of the SVH Group, Makro has 170 stores and over 17,000 employees across Latin America. Recently, the company, in addition to supplying the B2B market, has expanded its direct selling business. With Oracle Retail, the company was able to adapt to this transition, better controlling inventory, standardizing operations and improving the store experience in five countries.

“We chose Oracle Retail as a technology partner to expand our business and develop more sophisticated strategies to provide our customers with a better experience,” said Marcelo Abrantes Pinheiro, CEO of Makro Food Services. “Inventory is a critical component of customer satisfaction. If the information is clear and accurate, you can offer products in every interaction with your store's customers. As an example, after implementing Oracle Retail Forecasting, we were able to improve our fulfillment rating to 96.5% and reduce inventory by 4.5 days.”

To support this business transformation, Makro selected Oracle Retail Merchandising System, Oracle Retail Merchandise Financial Planning and Oracle Retail Demand Forecasting. The project started with the Oracle Retail Merchandising System, which supports this modern retail platform and delivered a model with approximately 1,400 business processes in multiple countries and currencies.

Oracle Retail Consulting (ORC) played a key role in project design to ensure alignment with best practices built into Oracle Retail solutions. Retail Consult, a Gold member of the Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN), provided in-depth knowledge of local retail markets, language skills and solution knowledge in Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela.

“A single view of orders, customers and inventory is the foundation on which all other items are executed. Makro focuses on establishing these components and ensuring the foundation has the right architecture,” said Mike Webster, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Retail. “Makro is already achieving exceptional results with this complete transformation project, which aims to deliver a better customer experience online and in physical stores.”
