From June 3 to 7, the Federal Revenue of Brazil held the 11th National Mutirão de Destruction of Seized Goods, in which around 80 RFB units across the country destroyed counterfeit products, cigarettes, drinks, cosmetics, medicines and foods unfit for consumption or use, among other items rejected for not meeting health surveillance or agricultural defense standards.

All the material comes from seizures carried out during customs inspection actions to combat smuggling, embezzlement, piracy and other illegal practices in foreign trade. In this effort, approximately 4.5 thousand tons of material were destroyed, the book value of which corresponds to approximately R$ 195 million in tax assessments. These products when sold in the informal market can reach the figure of R$ 600 million.

Destruction is one of the methods for disposing of seized goods. According to current legislation, items such as cigarettes and other tobacco products, simulacra firearms, counterfeit products and products that violate copyright, among others, must be destroyed. In this sense, the RFB carries out two National Destruction Task Forces annually, with a view to publicizing the important work it performs in combating piracy and other illegal practices, as well as protecting health and the environment by removing potentially harmful products from circulation. .

One of the Mutirão's destruction events was held on Friday, June 7th and was attended by the Undersecretary of Customs and International Relations, Ernani Checcucci; the Undersecretary of Corporate Management, Marcelo de Melo Souza, and the Superintendent of the Federal Revenue Service in the 9th Region.
