Initiative aims to combat the use of illegal software and guide entrepreneurs

Launched in 2014, with the objective of alerting Brazilian companies about the danger of unfair competition when using pirated software, the Empreendedor Legal initiative has just been expanded: the campaign gained a page on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/empreendedorlegal) and the exclusive content on the site www.empreendedorlegal.org.br will be expanded, with articles on management, which aim to help entrepreneurs in their daily business and increase public interaction with the site. The action is a joint achievement of ABES – Brazilian Association of Software Companies and BSA I The Software Alliance.

With this campaign, ABES and BSA encourage Brazilian entrepreneurs and executives to become more aware of the principles and advantages of fair competition, increasingly demanded by consumers, society and international markets. In addition to guiding entrepreneurs about the risks of using illegal software, the site has new articles on corporate ethics, how to survive the first years of a business, implementation of new technologies, people management, among other subjects.

The Legal Entrepreneur initiative has the support of several partners, including: ABPI – Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property; APEX – Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency; CNC – National Confederation of Commerce, CNCP – National Council for Combating Piracy; ETCO – Brazilian Institute of Competition Ethics and MBC – Competitive Brazil Movement; SEBRAE – Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service; and FIESP – Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo.

The Anonymous Reporting Portal (www.denunciepirataria.org.br), which received about 1,000 complaints a month in 2016, is another arm of the campaign against illegal software. It is a channel to encourage active behavior by society in the fight against unfair competition and piracy. Anyone who suspects that a person or company is using or selling unlicensed software can report it. Information is kept strictly confidential. The complaint can also be made by telephone: 0800 11 0039.

The 2016 edition of the BSA global survey on irregular software use indicates that the percentage of unlicensed software in use in Brazil represents 47% of the market.
