Many news are released about how to achieve goals and objectives in the new year. Experts comment on starting a new period full of plans to achieve what you want.

And of course, in every person, there is always a great desire to achieve or achieve something, whether in personal or professional life. In my consultations, I encourage professionals to reflect on what they want: a new job, a trip, a new behavior, or all that, why not ?!

However, before desires and achievements, some reflections are important and quite valuable for us to see our goals and plans. There must be a definite purpose. Some thoughts must be analyzed beforehand, after all, having a purpose in an attitude will reflect throughout the period. Questions such as why, what to do and / or achieve something, if considered, can bring our positive points, our weaknesses, improvements and even extract from us behaviors that do not make sense to continue to have.

One of the most famous phrases by the writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in the classic “The Little Prince” says “You become forever responsible for what you captivate”. In the book, this phrase brings a context of love, of paying attention to others, of creating something new. You become responsible for the consequences that your attitudes have on people's lives, especially those in which you have gained some feeling. In the appropriate context of this text, we can form links to our purposes - and what do we really want? - to be responsible for our lives and our goals, as we constantly seek to grow and develop.

We forget, for example, to experience our day-to-day, our present moment. The justification is the lack of time or that we are unable to achieve what we want, so we let moments pass and, consequently, desires. A reflection by Indian religious leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar says "every rush you have in your life just negates the happiness of the present moment". Living in the present moment can bring thoughts of something we want and thus a determined focus.

In addition to self-reflection, living in the present moment and personal development, it is necessary to reflect on unwanted behaviors and attitudes. If there are changes to be made, let it be in us first, after all, it is the way we treat certain situations that guides the way we live.

Another reflection is to review our biography. Yes, reconsidering our history and our existence can help to identify our competencies and acquired skills. For this, I leave as a tip the exercise of remembering your history, describing the facts and particular trajectories of life. The experience we build is usually measured by our past and this action of remembering our own history can develop our potential for the future.

Then add the self-reflection; personal development looking at behaviors and attitudes; and the analysis of the autobiography. It will probably make more sense to develop a purpose with a true and clear intention for the year 2018.

“The real man measures his strength when he faces the obstacle”, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
