Initiative improves employee data literacy and enables data-led decision making

Qlik has announced a partnership with the Nationwide Building Society, one of the world's largest British cooperative financial institution, to support the organization's technology and data transformation programme. Building on the Qlik solution, Nationwide is empowering its 18,000 employees with valuable data insights. This allows them to work more efficiently and realize greater value through faster, more accurate decision making.

First used as a solution for the commercial team across the country, Nationwide quickly expanded its use of Qlik in response to the need to accelerate its data and analytics strategy. This process encompasses the integration of the entire Qlik analytics platform (Qlik Analytics Platform®), with the primary objective of driving a data culture and making all employees data-savvy, ensuring that they have the confidence and skills needed to make decisions. through self-service reporting and analysis.

In the search for a more robust, consistent governance, with data accessibility by its employees, in addition to a culture of “responsible freedom”, the organization consolidated some of its secondary data teams and started to make information available through self-service resources. . This process revealed that many of Nationwide's data workers spent most of their time preparing the data, reducing their ability to deliver value to teams and discover insights.

Creating a Chief Data Officer (CDO) role brought together data governance, business intelligence, data warehousing, data lakes, and many data science employees into a single team to create a Data and Analytics Hub. inside the company. As a result, Nationwide is driving improved data practices and adopting new methods of analytics connecting data. Now, areas such as project management and delivery find business solutions in information that were previously not even considered part of the answers.

Data-enabled company

"As a shareholderless organization, everything we do is of great value to our members," comments Lee Raybould, CDO of Nationwide. “Qlik is not only providing the technical foundation to make Nationwide a data-enabled company, but also supporting the cultural development of all employees through our ambitions to be able to “fly” ('Fit to Fly'). By democratizing access to data across the country, we are starting to build our culture around it and increase its credibility as a foundation for new ideas and insights.”

“Qlik has proven to be a fantastic tool for consolidating disparate data, breaking down internal silos and driving value. By making data more visible and intuitive, business teams have gained new insights into many processes, increasing efficiency and fostering a data-driven culture,” said Paul French, Director of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics at Nationwide.

"Our work with Nationwide highlights the positive impact you can have on your business by becoming a data-led organization," says Simon Kirby, director of Financial Services Solutions at Qlik. “While technical analysis solutions play a crucial role, a company will never become data-enabled without cultural change and the buy-in of the entire workforce. The fact that a large financial services organization, with many complex processes, can redefine the practices of working with data shows the potential of other businesses in the sector”, he concludes.
