Minas Gerais acceleration program is already one of LA’s main initiatives
SEED – Startups and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Development, a program for the development of the entrepreneurship and startups ecosystem of Minas Gerais, surpassed the success of the first round and is already considered one of the main initiatives to promote entrepreneurship in Latin America. Projects from 21 Brazilian states and 34 countries compete for one of the 40 vacancies available to receive equity-free seed capital of up to R$ 80 thousand, mentoring, entrepreneurial training and a shared office with all the infrastructure to assist in business growth. In the first round, there were 1367 entries from 32 countries and 19 Brazilian states.
The submission of projects started on January 13th and ended on the 3rd. “The increase in reach and demand for the second group is a very positive indicator of the reputation built by SEED in such a short time”, says Leandro Campos, program manager.
Among the 21 Brazilian states, the largest representation of subscribers is in Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Pernambuco, Santa Catarina and Ceará, in descending order. The demand for entrepreneurs from abroad has also increased. Of the 34 countries registered, Argentina, the United States, India, Peru, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Canada stand out.
More than 60% of interested startups are in the concept or prototype building stage. The predominant sectors of activity are: IT and business software, e-commerce, social media, education, mobile technology, health and biotechnology.
The more than 1400 projects submitted will go through three stages of evaluation. The entire process will be conducted by Startup Farm (accelerator with a wide and varied network of mentors and high-level partners currently operating in Brazil), which will use more than 80 evaluators from Brazil and abroad, including mentors, entrepreneurs, investors and specialists in more diverse areas. Each project will be evaluated by at least three independent evaluators. The selection result will be announced on March 17. More information can be found on the program website: seed.mg.gov.br.
