In all, 3,000 evidences of best market practices are evaluated

Taking into account that many certifications attest to the qualification of IT professionals in the knowledge of different technology disciplines, but none address the quality of IT processes in use by companies, and with the aim of proving the excellence of the areas of Technology of Information in organizations, Proinfo-Edu / FIA (Information Technology Program of the Fundação Instituto de Administração) launches a certification of excellence on the subject.

The accreditation developed by the Foundation uses its own methodology based on a set of components addressing the following aspects:

• A classification for the dimensions that make up the IT value chain: governance, capacity building for performance, availability of resources, monitoring of the execution and administration of the logistics aspects of the area;

• The processes that integrate each of these dimensions;

• A set of references developed for each process, based on "best practices" recommended by Institutes that are dedicated to research in information technology;

• An algorithm based on Demmig's continuous improvement cycle (an interactive four-step management method, used for the control and continuous improvement of processes and products) to assess the degree of excellence achieved in each process, in the corresponding dimensions and technology information as a whole;

• A list of products to be obtained by applying this methodology.

In all, FIA consultants will evaluate up to 3,000 pieces of evidence to certify all processes and dimensions that involve an organization's Information Technology. "They can be evaluated from one to all processes within the dimensions presented and the company will receive degrees ranging from 0 to 5 for its level of excellence in the use of this technology", comments Sérgio Assis, one of the formulators of the methodology for certification.

The attribution of the level of excellence in governance and in the IT management processes evaluated by the FIA is based on the ISO / IEC 15504 standard, which establishes that a higher level is only achieved when the requirements of the previous levels are met.

Self-evaluation

For companies that need to initially evaluate the quality of their IT processes, without the specific need for a Certificate of Excellence, the institution offers the option of Self-Assessment, a methodology so that the company can self-know itself using its own resources. "The assessment is done entirely via the internet and serves as a basis for companies to analyze the quality of their processes in the area and subsequently adapt to the standards and in the future require FIA certification", explains Assis.
