Developers can build native applications with NativeScript

Progress has just released the beta version of NativeScript, an open source framework that allows developers to use the JavaScript language to build native mobile applications that run on all major mobile platforms, including AppleIOS, Google Android and Universal Windows.

NativeScript is designed to provide a highly familiar experience for developers who are comfortable with web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. With this, the release minimizes the learning curve for web developers interested in building native mobile applications. The solution also uses an innovative method to expose 100% native device APIs to NativeScript developers, including out-of-the-box support for new APIs in new versions of iOS and Android.

Telerik, a Progress company, and Progress itself see NativeScript as a complement to hybrid development approaches, such as Apache Cordova and PhoneGap, used for cross-platform app development. This gives developers the freedom to use JavaScript while gaining direct access to native APIs and UI build functionality by employing native platform high-performance UI components.

Available under an Apache v2 open source license from NativeScript.org, NativeScript allows developers to write JavaScript that can directly access native APIs. This means that NativeScript applications have native performance and all API accesses are identical to applications created with native platform languages. So, with NativeScript, developers can write just one application, and it will work on all platforms.
