Registration for the Women Tech Award in Sampa runs until December 23

The Women Tech Award in Sampa, an initiative by Rede Mulher Empreendedora – RME and Tech Sampa, a policy of the City of São Paulo to encourage the development of startups in the city, opened a new selection process. Up to six startups led by women that are developing innovative solutions with high growth potential will be selected and supported.

The selected startups will receive mentoring from RME and the Tech Sampa network, made up of agents from the startup ecosystem in São Paulo, in addition to press relations, access to coworking spaces and rounds with angel investors. One of the highlights of the Program is the creation of the “Casa das Empreendedoras”, a temporary space that will receive entrepreneurs and their teams for immersion activities in business development.

The startup that performs best throughout the Program will receive a special prize as a trip to Silicon Valley, where it will visit innovative companies and receive mentoring from experts.

Interested parties can register until December 23 on the website of the Tech Women Award in Sampa🇧🇷 Startups with innovative solutions, led by women, who have a final prototype of the solution (or in the development phase), in the validation phase with customers, may participate in the selection. Additionally, startups must commit to staying in the city of São Paulo during the program period and at least 50% of the team must have exclusive dedication to the project. The projects will be evaluated by a judging commission, according to the criteria established by the Prize Regulation.

The previous editions of the Award, held in 2015 and 2016, aimed to train and inspire women to work in the technology sector, and impacted around a thousand women in total. More than one hundred projects were entered in the two editions, which had eleven winners: Technovation Challenge, Rodada Hacker, Canal Girls in Tech, Startup in School, Mulheres 50+ em Rede, MariaLab, Curso Eu ProgrAMO,- PrograMaria, Academia Lovelace, Women up Games, PyLadies São Paulo and Circuito Meg Margadinaria de Tecnologia. All the winners received mentoring from RME and support with press relations, with ten projects receiving a prize of R$ 10,000 to develop activities.

According to the 2015 Global Startup Ecosystem Ranking, prepared by Startup Compass, the lack of gender equity is common among all ecosystems in the world. The average number of startups with female founders across the world's top ecosystems in 2015 is 18%. Chicago, in the United States, which has the best brand, presents 30% of startups founded by women. In São Paulo, this number does not exceed 13%.
