Tech Sampa includes promotion, acceleration and capitalization programs

With the aim of stimulating innovation and technological entrepreneurship, the City Hall launched, on August 29, the policy to encourage innovation and the development of startups in the city of São Paulo, Tech Sampa.

“We launched a comprehensive policy to support entrepreneurship in the technological area. Sometimes a beautiful idea dies due to lack of support. We will have a business cycle for companies that are being born and need government support”, said Mayor Fernando Haddad.

Tech Sampa will support the creation and development of startups in different stages of growth, promote competitiveness and sustainable development of technological products and services. The goal is to attract and retain startups with high growth potential. The policy also intends to enhance the interaction, exchange and cooperation environment between the various actors, connecting the local startups ecosystem to the other global technology centers.

At the launch of the program, the president of the BNDES, Luciano Coutinho, said that the City Hall initiative will have federal support. “São Paulo has a privileged position: it has the best university system in Brazil, it has a market, it has the center for business decisions, it has highly qualified human resources and an installed information technology system. We want to form a new business community that can overcome borders”, said Coutinho.

Tech Sampa's structural actions will be coordinated by four specific development programs run, according to their objectives, by the Municipal Secretariat for Development, Labor and Entrepreneurship and by the Municipal Secretariat for Finance and Economic Development.

Tech Sampa programs

Tech Sampa includes the Valorization of Technological Initiatives program – Vai Tec will financially support innovative projects, especially those linked to the area of information and communication technology, including grants. “The São Paulo Development Agency will support information and communication technology activities focused on low-income young people in the periphery”, explained secretary Arthur Henrique (Development, Work and Entrepreneurship. Vai Tec's first support is R$ 25 thousand , the second will cost R$ 50,000, and the entrepreneur can receive a loan from the BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development).

The second stage is the Fostering and Pre-Acceleration of Startups, which will offer support (financial, mentoring, infrastructure) to startups in their initial stages. The aim is to facilitate the transition of good ideas into good companies. According to secretary Marcos Cruz (Finance and Economic Development), support notices will select between 50 and 70 companies, which will receive training and support from R$ 50 thousand to R$ 60 thousand.

Next, there is Support for Acceleration of Startups, carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, it is a set of strategic actions aimed at boosting the growth of startups that have already gone through the initial stage of development. The objective is to accelerate the growth of already formed innovation companies, by raising funds and offering infrastructure.

Finally, a program to support the capitalization of startups will be carried out, which will include actions and partnerships aimed at facilitating the obtaining of venture capital from public or private financial institutions, development banks, public companies that promote economic and social development, companies and funds of specific financing and investment, as well as actions aimed at increasing the base of angel investors in the city of São Paulo.

In addition, the Municipal Department of Transport will continue to lead the ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) and Open Standards Laboratory of the City of São Paulo, which seeks to encourage research and support the creation of Startups and solutions aimed at improving urban mobility. .
