The City of São Paulo has opened registration for the second group of SP Stars – Mentoring Program for startups in the Municipality, which offers support through connections with a network of more than 300 mentors. Among them, CEOs of large companies, investors, accelerators, startup founders and executives such as VivaReal, 99, Nubank, Movile, Get Ninjas, Creditas, Loggi, Guia Bolso, Google, LinkedIn, Cabify, Iugu, iFood, Elo7, Vaniday, Agendor , Buscapé, among others. “Startups continue to grow, attracting new investments and generating jobs in the city. It is essential to support the growth of these innovative companies, as they are the ones who will create the solutions and jobs of the future”, says Juan Quirós, president of SP Negócios, responsible for organizing the program.

To participate in SP Stars, the startup must focus on technology and have at least two partners dedicated to the business, with a finished prototype being tested with customers. Entries can be made through the website www.spstars.co until August 13th, and those selected will be announced in three calls: 07/31, 08/07 and 08/18. The Program will start in the last week of August and will last until the end of the year.

Program news

For this new class, SP Stars brings something new. The program will select five international startups to participate in the initiative. “This connection is fundamental, as it contributes to the promotion of a culture of internationalization for local startups”, highlights Daniel Annenberg, Secretary of Innovation and Technology, SP Negócios partner in the program. Startups that are at a more advanced stage will also participate in workshops aimed at internationalization.

SP Stars is suitable both for advanced stage startups, which seek to connect with angel investors, funds and accelerators, as well as for those in an initial phase, which have validation, sales or digital marketing challenges. The initiative helps novice entrepreneurs learn from the mistakes and successes of more experienced startups, increasing their chances of success.

The program has generated important results for participating companies. “The mentorships with great entrepreneurs and market executives were essential for rebuilding our growth strategy, culture and key points of our products. After SP Stars, we ended the quarter with more than 100% of growth, consolidating our leadership position in the digital credit market for SMEs and fintechs in general”, explains Jorge Vargas, CEO of startup Biva.

The first class of SP Stars 2017 ends this month, when more than 750 in-person mentoring sessions will be held, consolidating itself as one of the main programs to connect mentors and startups in Brazil. The latest edition was mentored by CEOs and founders of large companies such as Stefanini, SAP, Standard Bank, Verizon, Intel, Giraffas, TV1 Group, Movida Rent a Car, BRQ, Cielo, Gradual Investimentos, Runner, among others.

SP Stars is the Mentorship Program for startups promoted by the City of São Paulo, within the scope of Tech Sampa, a municipal policy to support the city's startup ecosystem. The Program selects 50 startups each semester, which are connected with a network of more than 300 mentors, including investors, accelerators and executives from companies such as Google, Nubank, Intel, IBM, Microsoft, VivaReal, Loggi, among many others.
