Predilecta is one of the great global powers of processed natural foods and the BI strategy has been fundamental to the company's growth

A business intelligence (BI) project can take a company to new levels in the market in which it operates, with revenue growth, acquisition of other companies, market leadership in the categories in which it operates, expansion of exports, among other achievements. This is exactly what Predilecta Alimentos has been achieving as a result of its journey of implementing data driven strategies with Qlik solutions.

Predilecta Alimentos is a renowned Brazilian company and is the largest industrial guava processor in the world, in addition to holding prominent positions in the processing of tomatoes and corn. Brazil is an agricultural powerhouse in the world and Predilecta is one of the great global powers of processed natural foods. Our BI strategy has been fundamental to our growth”, informs Lucas Trevizaneli, Director of the Company.

Currently, Predilecta owns 16 brands (Predilecta, Etti, Salsaretti, Cajamar, Stella D'Oro, Show Cau and Só Fruta, etc.) with more than 700 items in the portfolio and is present in more than 60 countries, exporting directly to 31 of them: United States (main), Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, Switzerland, among others. The list of products for export includes: guava pulp, canned corn, guava paste, canned extract, canned peas, canned duet, canned select, tomato sauce, etc. It also produces its own brand items for large companies such as Carrefour, Dia, Budweiser, Nestlé, Coca-Cola and Ajinomoto.

Data-Driven Procurement

Predilecta's BI strategy began around 8 years ago, still using Qlik View and, since then, the company has been following the evolution of Qlik solutions. “The company moved away from analyzing data in an Excel spreadsheet, which was time-consuming and prone to errors, and migrated to a new level of business intelligence, to be a data-driven company. Since its inception, Predilecta has had the support of IN – Business Intelligence”, highlights André Magro, Business Intelligence Manager at the company.

For the most recent acquisitions made by Predilecta – purchase of the brands and manufacturing units of Salsaretti (2020) and Nordeste Mais (2022) – the company used BI data to define and conduct these business plans.

Predilecta currently uses Qlik Sense in the cloud (SaaS), integrated into the SAP environment. Analyzes are used by all areas of the company: production, finance, logistics, operational, accounting, sales and much more.

This is robust and well-executed BI work, which effectively contributes to identifying market opportunities, optimizing our internal processes and improving our decision-making. As a result, we not only achieved significant growth in our revenue, but also consolidated ourselves as one of the main global players in the food sector”, highlights Lucas.

Favorite: before and after Qlik – Strategic Data Dashboards

The main data panels are those available for the Commercial, Billing, Sales Order, Returns, Tracking and Delivery Monitor areas. The Purchasing, Commission, Accounting, Personnel Department, Tax, Cash Flow, Logistics, Production and Inventory sectors are also served.

Favorite: reducing losses and returns

To speed up strategic decisions and monitor Predilecta's performance, managers can access the main management panels directly on their smartphones.

Among the metrics, it is worth highlighting the reduction of production losses, monitoring of production stops, with real-time monitoring of data. As a result, production losses that were between 10% and 11% fell to 2.5% to 3%. Weekly meetings are held with operators to present suggestions for effective improvements in production processes with short-term returns.

In monitoring product returns by retail and wholesale customers, Predilecta also managed to do an excellent strategic job, reducing a significant value by half, offering managers and analysts macro and granular views to identify the reason for the return, category, customers, etc.

Recently, the company also implemented a delivery monitor and tracking of invoices, through which it is improving delivery times considerably.

Aligned with the low carbon economy, Predilecta has already given start to the project in this area, which will have BI data as central to achieving emissions neutralization goals and, in the future, will allow the company to sell credits on the carbon market.

Data literacy: team development

This successful journey is the result of Predilecta Alimentos' commitment to investing in technology and training its team to understand and use available data with excellence. Data literacy is part of the process of integrating new employees and training team employees.

As part of this evolution, “the company is currently creating a Market Intelligence sector, aiming to train at least one person in each area focused on data analysis, in order to consolidate the BI strategy and data literacy of our employees”, highlights André Magro.

With in-depth analyses, clear insights provided by analyzes carried out in Qlik, support from IN – Business Intelligence and strategic vision, Predilecta has been able to identify market trends quickly, with access to centralized data visualization, anticipating consumer needs and developing innovative products.

According to the 2022 ranking, released by the Brazilian Supermarket Association (ABRAS) and prepared together with NielsenIQ, Predilecta is the national leader in sales of Corn, Selected vegetables, Pea and Dueto (Corn and Pea) products, items that They are the first option for Brazilians when it comes to consuming preserved vegetables.
