The cities contemplated so far were: Curitiba, Caxias do Sul, Gramado, Taquara, Pelotas, Rio de Janeiro and Ribeirão Preto. In total, the authorities approached 25 resellers suspected of selling pirated software, with seizures that exceed 550 media suspected of containing unlicensed computer programs, in addition to pen drives, hard disks and serials for activating computer programs.
The information from the authorities and from ABES itself is that at any time new actions may occur, since the entity is expanding its fronts, such as the Portal de Denúncias, which had its dissemination reinforced through a campaign on radios and online portals in March and April.
According to the coordinator of the ABES Intellectual Property Committee, Rodrigo Paiva, currently, police authorities have focused on containing the power of proliferation of each media (which can be easily copied and multiplied) and not just on the volume of suspicious material .
“The new Anonymous Complaints portal has been supporting police investigations, which have sought to repress the spread of these illicit copies among merchants, carrying out searches and seizures of any amount, whether one media or a thousand. All equipment containing copies of these programs is also being seized, such as pen drives, external hard disks or serials for activating the software”, says Paiva.
Denouncement Portal
The Anonymous Complaints against Software Piracy portal www.denunciepirataria.org.br was launched by ABES, together with (BSA) The Software Alliance, as one more activity to combat software piracy in Brazil.
Reports are anonymous and must be submitted through the website. After being investigated by the two associations and, if there is evidence of irregularity, the necessary measures will be taken so that the cases are resolved quickly. Entities can notify software manufacturers and local authorities, who can file lawsuits to ensure that Brazilian software law is respected, as has been happening in recent months.
